Help Shape Technical Assurance Across HS2
Are you an experienced engineer or project professional who already understands technical assurance, even if it has never been your formal job title?
Perhaps your current role involves reviewing designs and technical submissions, checking compliance with requirements and standards, coordinating verification, managing engineering evidence, resolving technical queries or challenging contractors and designers where work does not meet the required standard.
This is an opportunity to turn that experience into a dedicated Technical Assurance Manager role, working directly for High Speed Two on one of Europe's largest infrastructure programmes, working on one or more HS2 contracts.
You will join an experienced Technical Assurance team and work across major HS2 delivery contracts, helping ensure contractors have the right processes in place, follow them correctly and can demonstrate through robust evidence that engineering work has been properly assured.
The Opportunity
HS2 operates a self assurance model, meaning contractors are responsible for assuring their own work.
Your role is to provide oversight of that process, ensuring contractor assurance arrangements are robust, appropriate and consistently applied. Are they providing HS2 the evidence, proof and indeed documentation that shows they have
You could work across HS2's Main Works Civils, Stations or Rail Systems contracts, depending on your experience. Ideally this person will work across Rail Systems Contracts but depending on experience of the successful candidate there is flexibility to also move them onto a Stations or Civils Contract.
This is a delivery facing role with significant contractor and stakeholder interaction. You will identify gaps in assurance, challenge poor practice, provide guidance and training where required and ensure the right evidence is produced and maintained.
You will also work with HS2 functions including Risk, Requirements, Configuration and Change and Information Management to ensure technical assurance is properly integrated across the programme.
What You Will Do
* Manage technical assurance activities across one or more HS2 delivery contracts.
* Review contractor assurance processes and ensure they are robust, suitable and being followed.
* Review and accept technical assurance evidence, ensuring it is complete, traceable and meets HS2 requirements.
* Identify assurance gaps, technical risks and areas requiring further verification or corrective action.
* Provide guidance, briefings and training to contractors and HS2 teams to improve understanding and application of technical assurance.
* Work with Subject Matter Experts and engineering teams to ensure additional verification is proportionate to technical risk.
* Produce assurance reporting and use performance data to identify trends, concerns and opportunities for improvement.
* Support audits, assurance reviews and investigations into technical issues where required.
* Work with Risk, Requirements, Configuration, Change and Information Management teams to ensure effective integration of assurance information.
About You
We are open to experienced Technical Assurance professionals, but equally interested in engineers and project professionals who have carried out many of these activities as part of their existing role.
You may already be reviewing designs and technical submissions, checking compliance with requirements and standards, coordinating verification, managing engineering evidence or challenging contractors and designers.
You do not need previous experience as a Technical Assurance Manager. What matters is that you understand how technical work is verified, evidenced and assured, have sound engineering judgement and can communicate confidently with contractors, designers and internal stakeholders.
Your background could come from rail infrastructure, rail systems, civil engineering, nuclear, aerospace, defence or another complex multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Essential Experience
* Experience working on major rail or infrastructure projects.
* Experience reviewing designs, technical submissions, engineering information or compliance evidence.
* Understanding of how engineering requirements are verified and evidenced through delivery.
* Experience working with contractors, designers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to challenge technical information and processes constructively.
* Good understanding of engineering requirements, verification, risk or systems processes.
