How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Cadent Gas Ltd

Helping to keep Cadent's network safe, compliant and efficient

We're looking for an Assistant Authorising Engineer to join our Engineering and Operational Safety team, playing a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant and effective operation of Cadent's critical gas network assets.

Working closely with Authorising Engineers, operational teams and Local Delivery Partners (LDPs), you'll provide technical assurance, engineering oversight and specialist advice across a wide range of network activities. You'll review, inspect and authorise engineering work, support the delivery of Safe Control of Operations (SCO), and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and engineering policies.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional looking to influence safety, improve operational performance and contribute to the continued reliability of one of the UK's most important infrastructure networks.

    Why you'll love this role

Make safety your priority by providing engineering assurance and oversight to ensure operational activities are delivered safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Play a critical technical role supporting the review, inspection and authorisation of engineering activities across the gas network.
Influence operational excellence through technical reviews, audits, investigations and recommendations that improve safety, compliance and performance.
Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance engineering processes, standards and ways of working.
Provide expert guidance on engineering modifications, repairs, additions and operational activities involving mechanical, electrical and instrumentation assets.
Contribute to major operational decisions through the review of Routine Operations (RO) and Non-Routine Operations (NRO) documentation and activities.
Build strong relationships with Local Delivery Partners, operational teams and technical stakeholders to ensure consistent engineering standards are maintained.
Enjoy a varied and impactful role combining technical assurance, compliance, operational support, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

    What you will bring

Degree-qualified engineer (or equivalent experience) with Engineering Chartership or the capability to operate at an equivalent professional level, supported by a valid UK driving licence.
Strong engineering and operational experience gained within gas, utilities, infrastructure or other safety-critical environments, with a sound understanding of network operations and asset management.
Technical assurance expertise including inspections, reviews, authorisation processes, engineering assessments and the implementation of remedial or corrective actions.
Knowledge of key legislation, standards and engineering governance frameworks, including PSSR, PSR, EWR, SCO processes, engineering instructions, codes of practice and statutory regulations.
Safety-focused mindset with experience promoting positive safety cultures, investigating incidents, assessing risk and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, able to evaluate engineering risks, challenge existing practices and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence operational teams, contractors, Local Delivery Partners and technical specialists at all levels.
Desirable experience within gas distribution/transmission, contractor or operational delivery environments, together with knowledge of engineering assurance frameworks and utility network operations.

Operating at the heart of Cadent's engineering assurance and operational safety functions, you'll help ensure our network remains safe, compliant and resilient. This is an opportunity to apply your engineering expertise, influence critical operational decisions and play a key role in protecting our people, customers and communities

Interviews expected to take place w/c 2nd November
