BSL Communication Support Worker (CSW) – College / Learning Support
Location: South East London
Pay: £25–£30 per hour, dependent on experience
Contract: Ongoing | Term-Time | College / Further Education
Ace Academics is recruiting a BSL Communication Support Worker (CSW) to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing students within a Further Education college in South East London.
We are interested in hearing from experienced Communication Support Workers, BSL Support Workers, BSL Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and Deaf Support Workers who have experience supporting students in education.
Applicants with British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 or Level 3, or those currently working towards Level 3, are encouraged to apply.
The Role
As a BSL Communication Support Worker, you will provide in-class and 1:1 communication and learning support to Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, helping them access lessons and participate fully in college life.
Responsibilities will include:

Providing British Sign Language (BSL) communication support during lessons.
*
Supporting Deaf and hard-of-hearing students on a 1:1 basis and within classroom settings.
*
Facilitating communication between students, lecturers, tutors and peers.
*
Supporting students to understand lesson content, classroom discussions and instructions.
*
Providing note-taking and communication support where required.
*
Adapting communication methods around individual student needs.
*
Supporting students across a variety of vocational and academic subjects.
*
Encouraging student independence, confidence and participation.
*
Working closely with lecturers, Learning Support and SEN teams.
*
Following college safeguarding, confidentiality and inclusion procedures.
About You
We would like to hear from candidates with:
*
British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2, Level 3 or above, or currently working towards Level 3.
*
Experience as a Communication Support Worker (CSW), BSL Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Deaf Support Worker or similar.
*
Experience supporting Deaf or hard-of-hearing learners.
*
Previous experience within a college, FE, school, SEN or education setting is desirable.
*
Good understanding of Deaf awareness, inclusive learning and communication needs.
*
A patient, supportive and professional approach.
Candidates with strong practical BSL skills and relevant education or Deaf support experience are encouraged to apply even if they do not currently hold BSL Level 3.
