We are recruiting for an experienced Engineering Shift Manager to join a professional Facilities Management team supporting a complex and technically demanding site in London.

⚡ This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional with strong mechanical and electrical maintenance experience who is looking to take on a key management and operational role.

🏢 The successful candidate will be responsible for leading engineering operations, managing a team of engineers and overseeing the safe and reliable operation of critical site infrastructure and building services.

🔧 The role will involve managing Mechanical and Electrical systems, BMS, HV SCADA, Schneider systems and lighting infrastructure, alongside overseeing contractors, permits, RAMS, isolations, PPM performance, KPIs and SLAs.

🔧 Responsibilities & Duties

• 👥 Lead, manage and support a team of engineers to ensure effective delivery of engineering and maintenance operations.
• ⚡ Manage and oversee Mechanical and Electrical systems across the site.
• 🏢 Take responsibility for the safe and reliable operation of critical building services and engineering infrastructure.
• 💻 Manage and monitor Building Management Systems (BMS).
• ⚡ Oversee HV SCADA systems and associated engineering infrastructure.
• 🔌 Manage and monitor Schneider systems and associated controls.
• 💡 Oversee site lighting systems and associated maintenance requirements.
• 📋 Manage the permitting of subcontractors and ensure works are appropriately authorised before commencement.
• 📑 Review, assess and approve RAMS in accordance with site requirements and safe systems of work.
• 🔐 Issue and manage sanctions for isolation where appropriately authorised and competent.
• ⚠️ Ensure all engineering works are undertaken safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
• 🛠️ Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities and ensure work is completed to the required standard.
• 📊 Monitor PPM performance and ensure maintenance activities are completed within agreed timescales.
• 📈 Monitor engineering KPIs and SLAs, identifying areas requiring improvement.
• 🔍 Review completed maintenance activities and ensure appropriate standards of workmanship are maintained.
• 🚨 Support the effective response to reactive maintenance issues, breakdowns and engineering emergencies.
• 🧠 Provide technical guidance and operational support to engineering teams when required.
• 📞 Act as a key point of contact for engineering-related operational issues during the shift.
• 🏗️ Coordinate engineering activities to minimise disruption to site operations and occupants.
• 🤝 Liaise with subcontractors, contractors, site teams and other stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.
• 🦺 Ensure all maintenance and engineering activities comply with Health & Safety requirements and site procedures.
• 📑 Ensure appropriate permits, RAMS, risk assessments and safe systems of work are in place before relevant activities commence.
• 🔐 Ensure electrical and engineering isolations are carried out safely and only by appropriately authorised personnel.
• 📝 Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance activities, permits, isolations and engineering operations.
• 💻 Ensure maintenance management systems and relevant documentation are kept accurate and up to date.
• 📊 Identify recurring faults, engineering issues and opportunities to improve system reliability.
• 📈 Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering operations and maintenance delivery.
• 🛡️ Ensure statutory, compliance and operational requirements are maintained across engineering systems.
• 🔧 Carry out operational and maintenance activities as directed by senior management.
• ⏱️ Ensure allocated works are completed within agreed timescales and to the required standard.
• 🚨 Provide effective leadership during engineering incidents, emergencies and critical operational situations.
• 👥 Support the development, training and competency of engineering team members.
• 📚 Maintain awareness of relevant technical standards, legislation, procedures and industry best practice.
• 🔄 Complete shift handovers effectively, ensuring important engineering information and outstanding issues are communicated.
• 🛠️ Undertake other reasonable duties relevant to the role and level of responsibility.

👨‍🔧 Requirements

• ⚡ Proven experience working as an Engineering Shift Manager, Engineering Supervisor, Engineering Manager, Shift Engineer, Engineering Team Leader or similar.
• 🏢 Strong experience within a Facilities Management, Building Services, Critical Environment or complex engineering environment.
• 🔧 Proven experience managing Mechanical and Electrical building services.
• 🎓 City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification – essential.
• 📘 City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification – essential.
• 🏢 Proven experience working within a maintenance environment.
• 🔧 Strong practical understanding of planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
• 📋 Previous experience managing or overseeing subcontractors and contractors.
• 📑 Proven experience with permitting and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
• 🛡️ Experience reviewing and approving RAMS.
• 🔐 Experience managing electrical or engineering isolations and associated sanctions.
• 💻 Familiarity with Schneider BMS systems.
• ⚡ Good understanding of electrical infrastructure and building services systems.
• 🧠 Strong technical fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• 📊 Experience monitoring KPIs, SLAs and maintenance performance.
• 👥 Previous experience leading or supervising engineering teams.
• 🗣️ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• 🤝 Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
• 🧠 Ability to make effective operational decisions within areas of competence and responsibility.
• 🦺 Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an engineering and maintenance environment.
• 📑 Good understanding of RAMS, permits, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• 📝 Ability to maintain accurate engineering, maintenance and compliance records.
• 💻 Good IT skills and ability to use computerised maintenance management systems.
• 🔄 Ability to work effectively within a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern.
• 🌙 Willingness to work across a shift-based operational environment, including nights where required.
• 🔐 Willingness and ability to undergo the required security clearance for the position.

⚡ This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineering Shift Manager, Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager with a strong electrical and maintenance background, offering a salary of £60,000 - £65,000 per annum and a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern in London.

🔧 The successful candidate will have a City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification, City & Guilds 2391, strong maintenance experience and proven knowledge of SSoW permitting, RAMS and contractor management.

🏢 Experience with Schneider BMS, HV SCADA, electrical systems, PPM management, KPIs and SLAs will be highly relevant to the position, while HV Authorised Person and CDM experience would be advantageous.
