How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A specialist fire safety consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Fire Consultant to join their growing team in Birmingham. The successful Fire Consultant will support a varied portfolio of residential, commercial and mixed-use developments across the Midlands.

    The Fire Consultant's Role

    The appointed Fire Consultant will provide practical and technical fire safety advice throughout the design, construction and occupation stages of projects.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Preparing and reviewing fire strategies

    Carrying out fire safety reviews and technical assessments

    Advising on means of escape, compartmentation and fire resistance

    Reviewing architectural drawings and design information

    Providing guidance on Approved Document B and relevant British Standards

    Liaising with architects, developers, contractors and Building Control

    Producing clear technical reports and recommendations

    Attending client and design team meetings

    Supporting projects through Building Regulations approval

    The Fire Consultant

    The successful Fire Consultant will ideally have:

    A degree or recognised qualification in Fire Engineering, Fire Safety or a related discipline

    Previous experience within a fire consultancy or similar technical environment

    Strong knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and guidance

    Experience producing fire strategies and technical reports

    Good client-facing and communication skills

    Membership of the IFE or another relevant professional body would be advantageous

    A full UK driving licence would be beneficial
