How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    12 Month contract – Inside IR35

    £71 - £80 per hour umbrella

    Mostly remote working – onsite circa 2 days per month

    Overview of Department:

    In order to deliver the MoD’s submarine and warship programmes, a significant programme of infrastructure investment is required on the Devonport site. The ‘Major Infrastructure Projects’ (MIP) Business Unit has been established to support this.

    One of the key scope elements within MIP is establishing a defuel capability for out of service submarines, which is delivered under the programme banner of SRC upgrades. This work comprises of a number of interrelated projects to develop various multi-disciplinary infrastructure systems, with an overall value in excess of £100m.

    The Dock Readiness project is delivering the infrastructure upgrades for the existing dry dock that will be used for the submarine defuels.  The dry dock is within a nuclear licensed site.

    Job Role:

    The primary purpose of the role is to ultimately assist and support the Design and Safety Manager in the delivery of project scope. This will include the likes of the following:

    Support the development, leadership, management and co-ordination of the technical work packages agreeing project related objectives, managing performance of Engineering and Design resource and making appropriate technical management decisions particularly focused on the implementation phase of work packages.
    Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget.
    Plan for effective project implementation, identifying key factors and supporting the leadership of the project’s technical planning process.
    Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements, operate and deliver through compliance with the Business Management System and Technical Manual.
    Ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
    Support the 14 Dock Readiness Design Manager to implement the project approach to Health, Safety and Environmental issues as applicable to design.
    Liaise with Engineering Services Technical Authority to ensure that Relevant Good Practice is employed.
    Demonstrate and promote the necessary safety culture within your area of responsibility and sphere of influence, continually assessing behaviours in your area.  Where appropriate you should raise any nuclear safety concerns to the person responsible for that activity.
    Ensure that staff and contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks (Health, Safety & Environment) associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment.
    Key Attributes:

    Nuclear Introductory Course or equivalent nuclear and / or marine system knowledge.
    Sound understanding and application of relevant industry legislation
    Industry Codes and Standards
    Implementation Practices
    Design Management (incl. Systems Engineering), planning and budgetary control
    Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements
    Knowledge of facility infrastructure design and installation
    Knowledge of construction techniques employed for Nuclear Safety related structures and systems
    Qualifications:

    A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalence through experience.
    Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards Chartered Engineer or equivalence through experience
