How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced Sales Engineer with a background in CNC machinery, capital equipment, automation or industrial machinery?

Are you looking for an opportunity to represent a globally recognised engineering business within the structural steel fabrication, steel processing and manufacturing sectors?

This is not simply an account management position.

You will take ownership of a UK and Ireland territory, developing new business, opening new customer relationships, identifying capital investment opportunities and growing existing accounts.

You will combine technical knowledge with a strong commercial approach, taking the time to understand how customers manufacture and where improvements can be made before recommending the appropriate machinery or automation solution.

    The Role

Develop new sales opportunities across the UK and Ireland for CNC machinery, structural steel processing equipment, automation, robotics, cutting systems, drilling, plate processing, sawing and associated technologies.
Identify and proactively approach new customers across the structural steel, fabrication, engineering and manufacturing sectors.
Build and manage a strong pipeline of new capital equipment opportunities.
Develop existing customer relationships and identify opportunities for additional machinery, automation, upgrades and complementary solutions.
Visit customers to understand their production processes, machinery requirements, investment plans and operational challenges.
Identify opportunities where increased automation, productivity, capacity or accuracy could provide a commercial benefit.
Manage the complete sales process from initial prospecting and enquiry through to technical discussions, quotation, negotiation and order.
Translate technical machinery capabilities into clear commercial benefits and return on investment opportunities.
Prepare quotations and commercial proposals with support from internal technical and engineering specialists.
Coordinate customer demonstrations, site visits and technical presentations.
Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and opportunity information.
Represent the business at customer meetings, exhibitions, demonstrations and industry events.
Travel extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, with occasional international travel for meetings, training and industry events.
    The Market

The successful candidate will be selling into a technically sophisticated industrial market where machinery investment can have a significant impact on a customer's production capacity, throughput, labour requirements, accuracy and overall profitability.

The target market includes businesses involved in:

    Structural steel fabrication
    Construction steelwork
    Bridge fabrication
    Industrial steel fabrication
    Steel processing
    Steel service centres
    Steel stockholding
    General engineering
    Specialist fabrication
    Agricultural equipment manufacturing
    Trailer and transport equipment
    Industrial machinery manufacturing
    Infrastructure and heavy engineering
You will need to be comfortable discussing manufacturing processes, machinery capabilities, automation and productivity improvements with technically knowledgeable customers.

    What We're Looking For

Proven field sales experience selling capital equipment, CNC machinery, machine tools, industrial machinery, automation or similar technical products.
Experience selling into manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, steel processing or a related industrial environment.
Experience of developing new business and winning new customers, rather than purely managing existing accounts.
Experience selling technically complex or high value equipment with potentially lengthy sales cycles.
Someone who enjoys prospecting, opening new doors and developing relationships from scratch.
Resilient and persistent, with the ability to manage complex sales processes and consistently follow up opportunities.
Strong relationship building skills with the ability to engage technical teams through to senior management and business owners.
A consultative approach to sales, taking the time to understand the customer's operation before recommending a solution.
Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage a national territory independently.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively.
    Why Join?

The role offers genuine autonomy across the UK and Ireland, giving you the opportunity to build your own customer network, develop new business and establish long term relationships with major industrial customers.

You will also have the backing of an established engineering, technical and service organisation, allowing you to focus on developing opportunities while drawing on specialist support throughout the sales process.

For the right individual, there is strong potential for long term career development and progression.

The business is looking for someone who wants to make an impact, someone who will actively develop their territory, identify opportunities, open new accounts and take ownership of the sales process.

    Location

The role covers the UK and Ireland, with extensive customer travel.

Candidates based around the M1 or M62 corridor would be of particular interest, including Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby and the wider Yorkshire, Midlands and North of England regions.

    Package

    £55,000–£65,000 basic salary
£6,000 car allowance / possible company car
    Uncapped commission
    UK & Ireland territory
Excellent career development and progression opportunities
Occasional travel to Europe and the USA
Your CV will be forwarded to Jonathan Lee Recruitment, a leading engineering and manufacturing recruitment consultancy established in 1978. The services advertised by Jonathan Lee Recruitment are those of an Employment Agency.

In order for your CV to be processed effectively, please ensure your name, email address, phone number and location (post code OR town OR county, as a minimum) are included
