How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Business Development Director | Soft FM

    Location: North West
    Salary: £50,000 to £65,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits + Potential Equity

    About you

You are an experienced Business Development professional from the Facilities Management or commercial cleaning sector who wants more than simply another sales role.

You want to have a genuine influence on where a business goes next.

You will be joining an established soft FM business currently turning over around £7m, with ambitions to grow towards £10m to £15m. They are looking for someone who can become an important part of that journey, with the potential for shares in the business for the right person.

You will know how to identify opportunities, build relationships and convert new business, although this role is not simply about opening doors.

A major part of the position will be identifying and securing larger contracts, including public sector opportunities. You therefore need to be comfortable with the complete tender process and capable of writing strong tender submissions yourself.

You will be commercially minded, confident speaking with senior decision makers and comfortable helping shape the wider growth strategy of the business.

    Your experience

You must have previous experience within Facilities Management or commercial cleaning.

    Your background should include:

A successful track record of winning new business within soft FM, commercial cleaning or a closely related FM environment

Experience writing public sector tenders from start to finish

Identifying and qualifying suitable tender opportunities

Producing high quality written tender submissions

Understanding commercial requirements, pricing and contract terms

Presenting and pitching to prospective clients

    Negotiating contracts and commercial agreements

Building relationships with senior decision makers

Developing a pipeline of realistic new business opportunities

Creating and implementing business development strategies

Experience working with operational teams to make sure what is being sold can actually be delivered

You do not need to come from a huge corporate FM business.

Someone who understands what it takes to grow an ambitious SME could actually be a very good fit.

What you will be doing with your experience

Your main responsibility will be helping take an established £7m business into its next stage of growth.

You will work closely with the existing leadership team to develop a clear business development strategy aimed at growing turnover towards £10m to £15m.

That will include identifying target sectors and clients, developing relationships, finding suitable tender opportunities and managing opportunities from initial conversation through to contract award.

You will take ownership of public sector tender submissions and be comfortable writing and coordinating the tender process from start to finish.

You will also help build a more structured approach to business development, including pipeline management, lead generation, account development and forecasting.

This is a senior position, so you will have the freedom to contribute ideas and challenge how things are currently done.

The business wants somebody who can help create the strategy as well as deliver it.

    About the business

This is an established soft Facilities Management business specialising in commercial cleaning and associated services.

The company currently turns over around £7m and has built its reputation around long term client relationships, reliable service and maintaining high standards.

The ambition now is to grow.

The leadership team believes there is an opportunity to develop the business towards £10m to £15m turnover and they want an experienced Business Development Director who can play a significant role in achieving that.

This is not about chasing turnover for the sake of it. They want to win the right contracts, maintain service quality and grow the business sustainably.

For the right person, there is also the potential to discuss shares in the business, giving you the opportunity to benefit from the value you help create.

    Next steps

If you have a background in Facilities Management or commercial cleaning, have personally written and managed public sector tenders and like the idea of helping an established SME move into its next stage of growth, I would be interested in speaking with you.

The salary is expected to be between £50,000 and £65,000 depending on experience, alongside a car allowance and additional benefits.

The potential equity opportunity would be discussed in more detail with the right person.

Get in touch and I can talk you through the business, where they are today and what they want this person to help them achieve
