How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Site Maintenance Service Operative
    Salary: £27,190 – £32,000 depending on experience (plus benefits)
    Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 8:00am to 4:30pm
    Location: South East (to cover East Anglia, Cambridgeshire, Kent & Essex)
    As a Site Maintenance Service Operative at FCC Environment, you will carry out site checks, oversee contractor activities and support repair and maintenance activities across inert and closed sites. You will help ensure that work is carried out safely, efficiently and with proper regard for environmental compliance.
    This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

    What will you be doing?
    - Assisting with daily, weekly and monthly checks across closed sites in accordance with FCC procedures
    - Identifying and escalating issues that require remedial works or statutory inspections
    - Undertaking appropriate repairs to site equipment and infrastructure, including sourcing spares and supporting maintenance programming
    - Carrying out relevant infrastructure checks on leachate systems and investigating and repairing issues where required
    - Supporting the efficient extraction of landfill gas and leachate to maximise environmental compliance
    - Managing and carrying out inductions for temporary labour, contractors and visitors
    - Controlling contractor activities and maintaining relevant paperwork in line with Company procedures
    - Carrying out regular inspections of site security and management systems, taking remedial action where necessary
    - Supporting the repair and maintenance of plant and equipment as directed by the Site Manager and supervisor
    - Ensuring site activities take account of relevant planning consents, ecological licences and environmental permits
    What are we looking for?
    - An understanding of leachate and gas systems
    - An understanding of environmental issues, including gas control, leachate and surface water
    - Experience of working outdoors
    - A UK driving licence
    - A basic understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act
    - Basic IT skills, including email, Microsoft Word and smartphone use
    - The ability and willingness to work alone, use your own initiative and follow Lone Working Procedures
    - Willingness to travel during the working day and work across different locations depending on operational requirements
    - Comfortable working outdoors throughout the year
    - Willingness to learn and apply existing knowledge to solve problems
