My client is a specialist ecological consultancy based in Essex, working across the East of England on a diverse range of development, infrastructure and conservation projects. Over the last few years, the business has evolved into a dedicated ecological consultancy, delivering pragmatic ecological advice and survey services to support planning and development projects. Their services include a range of ecological assessments, protected species surveys, ecological mitigation strategies and clerk of works.
With a growing project portfolio and expansion plans already underway, they are looking to appoint an Ecologist to support current infrastructure projects while also helping to deliver future growth across their ecology team.
Your new role
You will initially be focused on Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) responsibilities on a major infrastructure project associated in the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire area. The role will involve supporting pre-construction activities, such as archaeological trial trenching works in areas with ecological constraints relating to badgers and nesting birds.
Working on active construction sites, you will be responsible for:
- Conducting ECoW supervision and monitoring activities
- Carrying out pre-works ecological checks
- Delivering toolbox talks to site teams and contractors
- Advising construction teams on ecological constraints and mitigation measures
- Monitoring compliance with ecological requirements and licences where applicable
- Liaising with contractors, project managers and other stakeholders
- Producing site records and ecological reports
You will also have the opportunity to get involved in a wider range of consultancy projects for a range of development projects across Hertfordshire, Essex and the surrounding region.
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree in Ecology or a related subject or substantial experience to mitigate the lack of
- At least one season of ecological survey experience, ideally as an ECoW on construction or infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of protected species legislation
- Experience carrying out ecological checks and ecological monitoring
- Confident to deliver toolbox talks and engage with site teams
- A strong understanding of health and safety procedures whilst working on active sites
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A full UK driving licence and vehicle
