How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Position: School Site Assistant

    Contract Type: Part-time, temporary or permanent contract

    Start Date: 02/11/2026

    Location: Hertfordshire, UK

    Salary: £17,712 - £18,670

    Salary depends on experience and relevant qualifications. Higher rates apply to candidates with substantial maintenance or caretaking experience and/or relevant training.

    About the Role:

    Put your practical skills to work in a supportive specialist school in Hertfordshire. As Site Assistant, you will help keep the school safe, welcoming and ready for learning each day.

    Working alongside the Site Manager, you will carry out minor repairs, painting, grounds care and general maintenance. You will also prepare rooms for events, support site security and respond to urgent issues, bringing a practical approach to changing priorities.

    This varied role suits someone reliable and proactive who enjoys hands-on work and being part of a busy school community.

    Requirements:

    Experience in general maintenance, caretaking or a similar role.

    A full UK driving licence.

    Practical DIY skills, including minor repairs and painting.

    An understanding of health and safety and safe manual handling.

    A commitment to safeguarding and willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and other pre-employment checks.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, painting and caretaking tasks.

    Keep buildings, grounds and access routes clean and safe.

    Check doors, windows and alarms, reporting hazards promptly.

    Set up rooms for meetings, events and after-school activities.

    Receive deliveries and safely move furniture and equipment.

    Support contractor access and respond to urgent site issues.
