How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    SEMH Teaching Assistant - Boys' Specialist School - Wandsworth

    Are you a confident, resilient and motivated Teaching Assistant with experience supporting boys with SEMH and challenging behaviour?

    We are recruiting for an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist boys' school in Wandsworth, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

    This role would suit someone who can build strong relationships with young people, maintain clear boundaries and remain calm and consistent when managing challenging behaviour.

    The Role

    As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

    Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged boys.

    Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

    Support emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and social development.

    Manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies.

    Encourage pupils to engage with learning and develop greater independence.

    Support pupils inside and outside the classroom.

    Act as a positive role model and trusted adult.

    Support pupils during lessons, break times, interventions and school activities.

    Maintain clear and consistent boundaries.

    Follow individual behaviour and support plans.

    Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs and other professionals.

    Help maintain a calm, safe and structured environment.

    Who We're Looking For

    The ideal candidate will have:

    Strong experience working with children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour.

    Experience in specialist schools, PRUs, alternative provision, youth work, residential care or behaviour support.

    Confidence managing challenging or dysregulated behaviour.

    Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.

    A calm, patient and resilient approach.

    Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

    The ability to establish clear boundaries while building positive relationships.

    Experience in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, care or support work would be beneficial.

    Valid Child and Adult DBS essential.

    A background working with teenage boys or in male-focused youth settings would be particularly beneficial.

    You don't necessarily need previous experience as a Teaching Assistant. If you have strong experience supporting young people with behavioural, emotional or social difficulties, we'd like to hear from you.
