How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Job Title: Laboratory Technician - Analytical Chemistry
    Location: Southampton, UK
    Function: Research & Development
    Pay: £18.51 per hour
    Contract Length: 6 months+ (Minimum)

    About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our fast-paced Research & Development team in Southampton. This role offers hands-on experience in analytical chemistry, supporting day-to-day laboratory operations and contributing to the preparation and analysis of materials using fast-screening analytical tools.

You'll play a key role in maintaining lab efficiency, ensuring smooth operation of equipment, preparing samples, and supporting analytical workflows-all within a collaborative and innovation-driven environment.

    Key Responsibilities

Prepare materials and samples for analysis using fast-screening tools and support analytical workflows.

Conduct sample registration, preparation, organisation, and storage-ensuring full traceability and compliance.

Support chemical methodology implementation, quality control routines, and day-to-day lab operations.

Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality checks.

Maintain lab supplies, inventories, and ensure compliance with laboratory standards.

Use internal systems to support planning activities and maintain accurate technical records.

    What We're Looking For

    Technical Experience:

Practical experience in an analytical chemistry lab, ideally with exposure to chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques.

Understanding of analytical routines, particularly involving LC (Liquid Chromatography) and spectroscopic tools such as NIR and FTIR.

    Skills and Attributes:

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and implement appropriate solutions.

Effective communicator with good planning, organisation, and teamwork abilities.

A self-starter who can work independently and adapt to changing priorities.

Attention to detail and a proactive attitude toward improving lab processes.

    Qualifications:

A degree (minimum BSc preferred) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.

Confident user of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and able to work with internal databases.

    Why Join Us?

This is a great opportunity to build practical skills in a high-functioning lab environment while contributing to innovative analytical projects. You'll work alongside experienced scientists and gain exposure to industry-standard techniques and processes.

If you're passionate about science, thrive in a laboratory setting, and are looking to grow your analytical skills, we'd love to hear from you
