How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About Concern

Concern is a non-profit humanitarian organisation, founded in 1968, working to reduce suffering and end extreme poverty in the world's poorest countries. We deliver life-saving and life-changing work, from emergency response to health, nutrition, livelihoods and education programmes, and we go to the hardest-to-reach places so that no one is left behind.

We have more than 3,500 staff from 50 countries. Our vision is a world where no one lives in poverty, fear or oppression, and where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Our mission is to permanently transform the lives of people living in extreme poverty by tackling its root causes and building resilience.

    The role

You'll lead the development and delivery of Concern Worldwide UK's strategy to keep and grow income from individual cash supporters and Alternative Gifts buyers, through a programme of fundraising appeals and supporter communications. You'll report to the Supporter Development & Legacies Manager and manage two Direct Marketing Executives.

The role is mainly remote. You'll be in the office at least one day a week, attend all in-office staff days, and go to face-to-face meetings with external stakeholders.

    What you'll be doing

Delivering strategic projects within KPI targets that feed into the Public Fundraising and Engagement annual operational plan
Analysing campaign results, spotting trends and making recommendations on marketing direction
Line managing two Direct Marketing Executives, including training, coaching, delegation, performance monitoring and appraisals
Managing campaigns from start to finish: agency briefs, materials, data selections, copy, approvals, proofing, Donor Care briefings, analysis, reporting, costs and invoices
Growing the lifetime value of one-off cash donors through direct mail, email and online marketing
Working with the Supporter Development Manager to manage and improve the Alternative Gifts range, fulfilment and product strategy, alongside the Acquisition and Innovation teams
Monitoring budgets and helping to set future income and expenditure targets
Working with the Analysis, Campaign Planning and Insight team to review campaigns and use insight to increase income
Developing donor selection and prompting strategies so supporters receive the next best action
Coordinating campaigns by theme, creative or audience to increase impact
Working with the Major Donors team to build a mid-value programme and move high-value cash supporters into the Major Donor programme
Leading the warm emergency strategy within the Emergency Fundraising Strategy, which can raise an extra £500k to £1m a year
Keeping up to date with direct marketing legislation, best practice and regulatory requirements
Travelling overseas and in-country when needed, and taking part in sector consortia
    What you'll bring

    Essential:

Experience of carrying out complex procedures
Strong analytical and numerical skills, including managing financial and budget reports

Experience of working with external suppliers to deliver direct marketing campaigns
Strong planning and project management skills
The ability to work on your own initiative
Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
Excellent writing skills, including writing and commenting on fundraising copy
Strong organisation skills and experience of managing a varied workload
    Excellent attention to detail
A good understanding of donor care and customer service
    Desirable:

    Line management experience
Experience of managing a trading or value exchange product
Experience of working with overseas teams
New product and proposition development, ideally in fundraising
Experience of marketing across different regions
Knowledge of data protection legislation relating to direct marketing
    Additional information

This is a 12-month fixed term contract. New starters join at the bottom of the pay band.

The successful candidate will need to complete a criminal records self-declaration form and a Basic DBS or AccessNI check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily stop you working with Concern. This depends on the role and the circumstances of any offence.
