Are you an experienced Pastoral Lead, Head of Year or Behaviour/Pastoral professional looking for your next opportunity in a secondary school?

Tradewind Recruitment is working with This Client, a secondary school in Havering, who are looking to appoint a committed and confident Pastoral Lead / Head of Year to join their team from October/November 2026.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and academic progress of students within an assigned year group.

Working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, safeguarding teams, parents and external agencies, you will help ensure students receive the pastoral support they need to engage positively with school life and achieve their potential.

Key responsibilities will include:

Taking responsibility for the pastoral care of a designated year group

Monitoring student behaviour, attendance, punctuality and wellbeing

Supporting students with behavioural, social or emotional needs

Implementing and monitoring behaviour and pastoral support plans

Liaising with parents and carers regarding student progress and concerns

Working closely with teaching staff and senior leadership

Supporting safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns appropriately

Leading year-group assemblies and contributing to the wider pastoral programme

Supporting students through challenging situations and helping them re-engage with learning

Maintaining accurate records of pastoral interventions and student progress

Person Specification

We would like to hear from candidates who:

Have previous experience working in a pastoral, behaviour, safeguarding or Head of Year role within a secondary school

Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Can remain calm, professional and consistent when dealing with challenging behaviour

Are confident working with parents, carers and external agencies

Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and student welfare

Are organised and able to manage a busy workload

Can build positive relationships with young people while maintaining clear professional boundaries

Are passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning

Experience as a Head of Year, Pastoral Manager, Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor or Student Support Officer would be particularly beneficial.
