We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Design Technology Teacher to join a specialist school in Princes Risborough (HP27), supporting students aged 11–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of additional needs.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and adaptable Design Technology Teacher to deliver engaging, practical and highly personalised lessons that help students develop their confidence, independence and practical skills.
About the Role
As a Design Technology Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, practical and differentiated lessons that are accessible to students with a range of abilities and additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
As a Design Technology Teacher, you will:
Plan and deliver engaging and practical DT lessons for students aged 11–18.
Adapt lessons and resources to meet the individual needs, abilities and learning styles of students.
Teach a range of practical and creative DT skills, encouraging students to develop independence and confidence.
Create a safe, structured and engaging practical learning environment.
Use practical projects and hands-on activities to promote creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking.
Monitor, assess and record student progress, identifying appropriate next steps.
Develop personalised learning opportunities for students with SEMH and additional needs.
Build positive and trusting relationships with students and promote positive behaviour.
Support students to develop transferable skills, including teamwork, communication, organisation and independence.
Work closely with Teaching Assistants and support staff to ensure consistent and effective provision.
Contribute to EHCP outcomes and individual learning plans where appropriate.
Maintain high expectations while recognising and celebrating individual achievements.
Contribute to school meetings, training, professional development and the wider life of the school.
Ensure appropriate health and safety procedures are followed during practical lessons.
About You
The successful Design Technology Teacher will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
A relevant qualification or strong subject knowledge in Design Technology.
Experience teaching DT at secondary level is desirable.
Experience working with students with SEND, SEMH or additional needs is desirable.
Strong classroom management and communication skills.
The ability to differentiate and adapt lessons to meet a range of learning needs.
A creative, practical and engaging approach to teaching.
A patient, calm, resilient and compassionate approach.
The ability to build strong and trusting relationships with students.
A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and promoting positive outcomes for every learner.
Strong awareness of health and safety within a practical learning environment.
