How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Commercial & Sales Manager - Freight & Logistics

    £50,000 - £60,000 + Company Car + Bonus
Hybrid | National Travel | West Midlands

A well-established logistics and freight business is creating a brand-new Commercial & Sales Manager position to take ownership of its sales activity and help drive the next stage of commercial growth.

This is an opportunity for an experienced freight and logistics sales professional who knows the industry, understands how to win and retain customers, and is confident operating with a high degree of autonomy.

This is not a role for someone who needs a detailed sales playbook or constant direction. The business is looking for a self-motivated, commercially minded individual who can identify opportunities, build relationships, develop new business and simply get on with it.

    The Role

You will take responsibility for developing and growing the company's customer base, identifying new commercial opportunities and strengthening relationships with existing customers.

The role will involve a mixture of new business development, account management and commercial strategy, with the freedom to develop your own approach to generating growth.

A key part of the role will be developing freight opportunities, particularly around movements into and out of Ireland, so strong knowledge of the Irish freight market and associated logistics requirements is highly desirable.

You will be expected to spend time in front of customers and prospects across the UK, meaning national travel will be an important part of the position.

    Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute a proactive sales strategy to generate new business.
Identify and target prospective customers across the UK.
Develop strong, long-term relationships with customers and key decision-makers.
Grow revenue and profitability through new business and existing accounts.
Identify opportunities across freight, logistics and transport services.
Develop business opportunities involving freight movements into Ireland.
Manage the complete sales process from initial prospecting through to negotiation and conversion.
Prepare and present commercial proposals and negotiate pricing and terms.
Maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities and provide accurate sales forecasting.
Work closely with the operational team to ensure customer requirements can be delivered effectively.
Monitor market developments, customer requirements and competitor activity.
Represent the business professionally at customer meetings, industry events and networking opportunities.
Take ownership of the commercial function and help shape the company's wider sales strategy.

    About You

The successful candidate is likely to be an experienced Sales Manager, Business Development Manager, Commercial Manager or Senior Sales professional from within the freight, logistics or transport sector.

    You will ideally have:

Proven experience selling freight, logistics or transport services.
A strong understanding of the UK freight market.
Specific experience dealing with freight movements into Ireland.
A proven track record of winning new business.
    Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
The ability to identify opportunities and turn them into profitable business.
    Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
A confident, professional approach when dealing with senior decision-makers.
A highly self-motivated and proactive approach.
The ability to work independently without requiring constant direction.
A genuine commercial mindset and desire to grow a business.
A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally.

    What You'll Get

£50,000 - £60,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
    Company car.
    Bonus / performance-related earning potential.
    Hybrid working.
A newly created position with genuine ownership of the sales function.
The opportunity to have a direct impact on the company's commercial growth.
    National customer-facing travel.
The autonomy to develop and implement your own sales approach.

    Why This Role?

This is a particularly good opportunity for someone who has reached the point in their career where they want ownership rather than simply another sales territory.

You will be joining a successful logistics business at a point where it is looking to invest further in its commercial operation. The role gives the successful candidate the opportunity to make the position their own, build a strong pipeline, win new customers, and have a visible impact on the growth of the business.

If you're an experienced freight sales professional who knows how to open doors, win business and build lasting customer relationships - and you're comfortable being left to get on with it - this could be an excellent opportunity.
