How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Alstom is the UK & Ireland’s leading supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider. Alstom have built, or are building, just under 40% of the UK mainline train fleet; as well as the entire fleets in service with London Underground and Dublin Luas.

We provide the widest range of smart solutions in the rail market, from innovative high-speed rolling stock, metros and trams to maintenance, modernisation, infrastructure and signalling.

Employing 6000 people, we design and build trains at Derby, the UK’s largest train factory; and operate major sites at Widnes, Crewe, Ilford and Plymouth, and 30 train services depots across the UK and Ireland.

    Purpose of the Role
To repair and test electronic equipment in line with functional specifications and engineering drawings to a high standard and within the standard repair/test times defined, in order to meet agreed deadlines for the manufacturing/returns schedule. Ensure high standards of right-first-time performance, repair/test efficiency, and service levels are consistently achieved. Provide fast resolution to any assembly issues identified and maintain good levels of communication with the Repair Team.

    We’ll look to you for:

Responsible for the repair and testing of electronic equipment on time and to the correct specifications and quality standards.
Provide positive support to team members as required.
Adhere to UK Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices.
Comply with ALSTOM Engineering & Services Limited quality standards, factory rules, and HR policies.
Ensure KPI targets for RFT (Right First Time), efficiency, cost, and service are consistently achieved.
Contribute positively to continuous improvement activities.
Meet all deadlines and targets set by the Repair Team Leader.
Establish good working relationships with the Repair Team and key members of Manufacturing.
Report Health and Safety issues/near misses to the Repair Team Leader.

    All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

A solid understanding of electronics repair/engineering disciplines ideally educated to HNC level or equivalent, along with health and safety and quality standards.
Experience in electronics repair, testing, and engineering within a relevant manufacturing environment, using best practice repair/test techniques.
Time-served engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
Driven, disciplined, logical-thinking, self-motivated, a team player, able to communicate at all levels, and above all, highly innovative in delivering high standards in electronics repair/test work.
