How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are looking for experienced EHV Protection and Control Systems Design Engineers to join our clients growing team based at Thorpe Park, Leeds or Cheadle, Staffordshire.
    You will work on a varied portfolio of transmission, distribution, renewable energy and battery energy storage projects across the UK. From early feasibility through to commissioning support, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and project teams to deliver high-quality protection and control solutions that keep the nation's power flowing.

    Key Responsibilities:
    * Produce protection and control designs for HV and EHV substations up to 132kV.
    * Prepare protection philosophies, relay requirements, AC/DC schematics and technical specifications.
    * Develop protection single-line diagrams, interlocking schemes and control documentation.
    * Support the integration of protection, control, SCADA and communication systems.
    * Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project delivery.
    * Attend technical meetings, design reviews and client workshops.
    * Provide engineering support during testing, commissioning and energisation.
    * Assist with technical proposals and mentor junior engineers where appropriate.
    Qualifications / skills
    * Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
    * Experience designing EHV and HV substations
    * Experience designing protection and control systems for HV and EHV substations
    * Knowledge of National Grid, DNO, ICP, renewable energy or battery storage projects is advantageous
    * Experience with AIS and/or GIS substations
    * Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
    * Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
    * A commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions
