The responsibilities of the Finance Assistant include but are not limited to:
* Managing sales and purchase ledgers, ensuring all transactions are accurately processed and reconciled.
* Posting and allocating customer payments, responding to account queries, and issuing customer statements.
* Conducting credit control activities, including chasing overdue payments and monitoring debtor accounts.
* Processing supplier invoices and payments, including foreign currency transactions.
* Reconciling bank accounts, expenses, company charge cards, and financial ledgers.
* Preparing VAT returns and supporting monthly and year-end reporting processes.
* Producing regular financial and KPI reports for the management team.
* Acting as the main day-to-day point of contact for external accountants and finance-related queries.
Skills, Experience & Key Candidate Attributes of the Finance Assistant:
* Previous experience in a Bookkeeper, Finance Assistant, or similar accounting role.
* Strong knowledge of sales ledger, purchase ledger, bank reconciliations, and credit control.
* Working knowledge of UK VAT and experience preparing VAT returns.
* Good Excel skills and experience using accounting, finance, or ERP systems.
* High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills with the confidence to liaise with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
* Self-motivated, organised, and able to work independently while managing deadlines.
* AAT qualification (or working towards) would be advantageous but is not essential.
