We are looking for an Assistant General Manager to take responsibility for the delivery and development of our Norwich venue. You will drive commercial performance, consistently meet or exceed customer expectations, develop and retain the team, and help secure the long-term success of the Adventure Leisure division.
What you’ll do
* Grow revenue and manage promotions: Review bookings, customer usage and daily utilisation to check rates, protect price integrity and spot demand opportunities. Increase retail and food and beverage sales through upselling. Set up and track EPOS promotions, monthly offers, weekly upsells, bounce backs and replay strategies, with accurate monitoring and staff training.
* Drive sales and marketing: Build a sales and marketing culture within the team. Help create offline marketing and campaigns for target markets, maintain the customer database in line with data protection law, and analyse and report results to identify improvements.
* Manage budgets and costs: Communicate the business plan and lead the team towards budgeted goals. Match staffing levels and rotas to demand and budget, manage the cost of sales ratio to budget or lower, complete financial reports and budgets, and maintain accounting and files for adventure golf, food and beverage and retail.
* Lead food, drink, retail and guest service: Oversee the licensed bar, catering department, kitchen and snack bar. Meet quality, quantity and customer satisfaction goals, ensure full food hygiene compliance, and purchase supplies through agreed group contracts. Maintain staff performance, appearance and service standards; resolve guest enquiries and concerns, then follow up to confirm satisfaction.
* Maintain the venue: Oversee its condition and suggest annual improvements. Walk the adventure golf courses daily, complete and act on health and safety checks, carry out routine repairs and landscaping where required, and record and report issues that cannot be fixed on site. Coordinate maintenance suppliers and contractors.
* Lead and develop the team: Manage recruitment, orientation, induction and training in line with group standards. Coach and appraise employees, manage change, and model the behaviours, work ethic, vision, mission and values expected across BGL.
* Represent the business: Build local community connections, follow group personnel and health and safety policies, and undertake other reasonable duties requested by management.
What we’re looking for
* At least two years’ experience as a Duty Manager or Deputy Manager, plus operational site management experience.
* Strong leadership, people management, coaching and development skills.
* Clear verbal, written and listening skills, with good presentation ability.
* Sound planning, prioritisation, delegation, time management, organisation, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* An organised, enthusiastic and detail-conscious approach; confidence managing change and a drive to deliver results.
* A good GCSE standard of education and a driving licence.
Experience in P&L management and sales and marketing would be an advantage. A Personal Licence and First Aid at Work certification would also be beneficial, but are not essential.
