About the Role

We are looking for a talented and motivated Structural Engineer to join our London-based design consultancy.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting the delivery of a diverse range of structural engineering projects across the UK and internationally. You will be involved in projects from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction, working closely with senior engineers, architects, contractors and other design professionals.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to broaden their project experience, strengthen their technical skills and progress towards professional qualification.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the structural design and delivery of projects from concept through to construction.

Undertake structural analysis and design in accordance with relevant UK standards and project requirements.

Prepare structural calculations, design reports, specifications and other technical documentation.

Develop practical, efficient and economical structural solutions.

Assist with the design of structures in materials including steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber.

Produce and review structural drawings in collaboration with technicians and BIM teams.

Coordinate structural designs with architects, civil engineers, MEP consultants and other members of the design team.

Attend project meetings and assist with communication between the structural engineering team and other project stakeholders.

Assist with site inspections, surveys and investigations where required.

Respond to technical queries and assist with resolving design and construction issues.

Assist with the review of contractor proposals, technical submissions and design information.

Contribute to design development, value engineering and optimisation throughout the project lifecycle.

Maintain accurate project records and ensure design work is completed in accordance with internal quality procedures.

Work to agreed project programmes, deadlines and budgets.

Support senior engineers with the technical delivery and management of projects.

Develop an understanding of project scope, deliverables, fees and commercial requirements.

Contribute to the preparation of proposals and technical information for new projects where appropriate.

Project Experience

The consultancy works across a variety of sectors, giving you the opportunity to gain experience on a broad range of projects.

Relevant project experience may include:

Commercial developments

Residential buildings

Industrial and logistics facilities

Data centres

Energy projects

Retail developments

Refurbishment and alterations

New-build developments

Complex and technically challenging structures

Experience in one or more of these sectors would be advantageous, although candidates with a strong technical foundation and a willingness to learn will also be considered.

Technical Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.

Previous experience working within a structural engineering consultancy or design environment.

A good understanding of structural engineering principles and design methodologies.

Experience undertaking structural calculations and analysis.

Knowledge of UK structural design standards and relevant industry guidance.

Experience with reinforced concrete, steel and other common structural materials.

The ability to interpret architectural, structural and construction drawings.

Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.

Good working knowledge of engineering software.

Experience with Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, Robot Structural Analysis, Tekla Structural Designer, ETABS, SAP2000 or similar software would be beneficial, depending on project requirements.
