Salary:
·Quantity Surveyor - up to £50,000 per annum DOE + £5,500 car allowance
·Project Quantity Surveyor - up to £60,000 per annum DOE + £6,500 car allowance + up to 10% bonus

Role Overview:
 
Due to continued growth within their Southern Integrated Delivery CP7 rail framework, my client is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor or Project Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team delivering a long-term programme of rail earthworks and civil engineering projects across the Southern region.
 
The role will involve the hands-on commercial management of a revolving portfolio of projects, typically ranging in value from approximately £1m to £10m. Depending on workload and project stages, you could have commercial responsibility across multiple schemes simultaneously.
 
This is a commercially focused position with a strong emphasis on subcontract management, cost forecasting and reporting. You will work closely with Project Managers and delivery teams but will be expected to take ownership of your commercial responsibilities, rather than simply supporting a Senior Quantity Surveyor.
 
Projects primarily consist of rail earthworks and associated civils packages. Rail experience is preferred; however, candidates with strong contractor-side experience across other civil engineering sectors, including highways, structures and major infrastructure, will also be considered.
 
The business is also open to candidates from either a main contractor or subcontractor background, provided you can demonstrate the required commercial capability. Previous exposure to NEC contracts is essential, with experience of NEC Option A and/or E particularly beneficial.
 
The role offers hybrid working, with up to two days per week working from home. New starters will be expected to spend more time within the office initially while becoming familiar with the team, projects and company processes.
 
Key Responsibilities:
·Take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of rail civils and earthworks projects
·Prepare monthly CVRs and cost reports alongside Project Managers
·Produce and maintain accurate project cost forecasts
·Manage monthly accruals, liabilities and commercial reporting
·Manage subcontract packages from order through to final account
·Produce subcontract orders using company templates and processes
·Manage subcontractor valuations, payment applications and performance
·Assess subcontract quotations and provide commercial challenge to ensure value for money
·Manage early warnings and compensation events under NEC contracts
·Maintain accurate commercial records and support project risk management
·Work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to improve commercial awareness and project performance
·Attend project, commercial and site meetings as required
·Build strong working relationships with site teams, Project Managers, subcontractors and other project stakeholders
 
Essential Requirements:
·2-4 years' experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a contractor or subcontractor environment
·Strong hands-on subcontract management experience
·Ability to independently prepare cost forecasts, CVRs and commercial reports
·Experience managing subcontractor valuations, payments, accruals and liabilities
·Experience reviewing and analysing subcontract quotations
·Working knowledge and practical exposure to NEC contracts
·Understanding of early warnings and compensation events
·Strong commercial awareness and ability to challenge project decisions where appropriate
·Strong communication and relationship-building skills
·Proactive approach to identifying and resolving commercial issues
 
Desirable Requirements:
·Experience working under NEC Option A and/or Option E
·Experience within rail civils, earthworks, drainage or structures
·Previous Network Rail or CP6/CP7 framework experience
·Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
 
Candidate Profile:
·The hiring manager is particularly interested in commercially capable individuals who are proactive, dynamic and solution-focused.
·You should be comfortable taking ownership of your workload and, when identifying a commercial issue, be prepared to suggest potential solutions rather than simply escalating the problem.
·Strong interpersonal skills are equally important. You will work closely with Project Managers and site teams, so the ability to build relationships, communicate commercially and challenge decisions constructively will be key.
·The business is also looking for someone who is open-minded and willing to learn and adopt its established commercial processes and ways of working.
