How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our Vacancy

    We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused Repairs and Maintenance Operative to join our responsive repairs team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining our homes and delivering high-quality repair services that make a real difference to our residents. If you take pride in your workmanship, enjoy solving problems, and are passionate about providing excellent customer service, we'd love to hear from you.

    What You'll Be Doing

    As a Repairs and Maintenance Operative, you will carry out a range of routine and emergency repairs, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You'll use a PDA to receive and update work orders, accurately record works completed, and provide photographic evidence where required. You will aim to resolve repairs on the first visit wherever possible, keep residents informed throughout the process, and work closely with colleagues to deliver an outstanding repairs service. You'll also be responsible for maintaining company vehicles, tools, and equipment and ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety requirements.

    What You'll Need

    You'll have strong all-round trade skills and experience working within social housing repairs or a similar maintenance environment. A full UK driving licence is essential, along with confidence using mobile technology to manage and record work. We're looking for someone with excellent communication and customer service skills who can work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain high standards of quality. A proactive approach, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safe working practices will help you succeed in this role.

    Why join us

    When you join Town and Country Housing, you're joining a team guided by our values, Be Kind, Do the Right Thing, Love New Ideas, Celebrate Diversity, Keep Our Promises, and Pull Together. We believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels supported, included and empowered.

    What we offer

    * Annual Salary £40,660

    * Contributory pension scheme up to 10% matched contributions

    * Life assurance of 4x annual salary (Terms and Conditions apply)

    * 30 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays

    * Two volunteer days per year

    * 24/7 digital GP service and counselling helpline (including face-to-face sessions)

    * Free annual eye test voucher and contribution towards glasses

    * Enhanced maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave provision

    * Flexible benefits scheme, including family friendly benefits and access to a discount portal

    * Annual flu vaccinations
