Position: History Teacher – Maternity Cover

Salary: £35,602 (M1)–£54,328 (UPS3) per annum, London Fringe pay scale

Salary depends on experience and pay scale position, with the maximum applicable to candidates with substantial teaching experience.

About the Role:

A secondary school in Borehamwood is seeking an enthusiastic History Teacher for maternity cover. You will join a supportive humanities department within a modern learning environment and a school community with a strong sense of belonging.

Teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, you will bring historical events, people and ideas to life through engaging, thought-provoking lessons. You will help pupils analyse evidence, evaluate interpretations and develop well-reasoned arguments.

This History Teacher role suits a confident classroom practitioner who combines strong subject knowledge with high expectations, positive relationships and a collaborative approach.

Requirements:

· A recognised teaching qualification and experience teaching History across KS3 and KS4

· Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for History

· Confidence teaching pupils of different abilities and backgrounds

· Effective classroom management and high expectations of pupil progress

· Commitment to safeguarding and willingness to complete relevant pre-employment checks

Key Responsibilities:

· Plan and deliver engaging History lessons across KS3 and KS4

· Develop pupils skills in evidence analysis, historical interpretation and argument writing

· Adapt teaching to support different learning needs

· Assess progress and provide constructive feedback

· Encourage curiosity, discussion and independent thinking

· Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the wider humanities department
