Salary: £35,602 (M1)–£48,479 (M6) per annum, London Fringe pay scale

Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)

About the Role:

A secondary school in Borehamwood is seeking an enthusiastic English Teacher for maternity cover. You will join a close-knit, supportive department in a modern learning environment, helping pupils develop their enjoyment of reading and writing.

Teaching English Language and Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4, you will build pupils confidence in communication, discussion and analytical thinking. You will plan engaging lessons, assess progress and adapt teaching to different abilities.

This English Teacher role suits someone who values collaboration, positive relationships and high expectations, with opportunities to share ideas and resources within an established team.

Requirements:

· Qualified Teacher Status and a recognised secondary teaching qualification

· Experience teaching English across Key Stages 3 and 4

· Strong knowledge of English Language and Literature curricula and assessment

· The right to work in the UK, subject to verification

· Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and other pre-employment checks

· Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and commitment to school policies

Key Responsibilities:

· Plan and deliver engaging lessons in reading, writing, language analysis and literature

· Assess pupils work and provide feedback that supports progress

· Create a purposeful classroom that encourages discussion and participation

· Adapt teaching to meet different abilities and learning needs

· Share ideas, resources and effective practice with department colleagues
