As data networks expand globally, data centres have become critical to modern digital infrastructure. Our client partners with major global operators to design highly resilient, energy-efficient, and future-proof mission-critical facilities. To support their expanding digital infrastructure portfolio, they are seeking an accomplished Mechanical Building Services Engineer to help lead complex, high-value data centre projects from concept through to commissioning.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will take on a pivotal leadership position within a supportive, creative Building Engineering division. Heading up the mechanical discipline within the data centre sector, you will guide mechanical design packages from initial briefing through detailed design, installation, and commissioning, while mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Design Leadership: Lead and deliver mechanical work packages on complex, fast-paced data centre projects from inception to completion.
Multidisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, managing sub-consultants and driving integrated, sustainable, and innovative design approaches.
Client Engagement & Communication: Work closely with major global clients, presenting complex technical information clearly through sketching, drawing, and structured reporting.
Project & Commercial Management: Take responsibility for managing project budgets, resource allocation, and deliverable schedules to ensure outstanding results.
Team Development: Mentor and support junior colleagues, aiding their technical growth and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Digital & Sustainable Innovation: Apply modern digital design tools, industry software, and low-carbon strategies to optimize energy efficiency and building performance.What We Are Looking For
Qualifications: Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (preferably to Master's level) with Chartered Engineer status (CEng via CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent).
Sector Expertise: Strong background in mechanical building services design, with dedicated experience in data centres or other complex mission-critical environments.
Technical & Software Mastery: Demonstrated competence in industry-standard mechanical design software packages.
Project Leadership: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams, managing fast-paced projects across all stages of delivery.
Communication Skills: Excellent capability to communicate design concepts effectively to clients and project teams through drawings, sketches, and written documentation.What Our Client Offers
