Electrical Estimator

Deeside, North Wales | Full-time, Permanent

AJ Field Electrical & Mechanical is looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our growing pre-construction team at our head office in Deeside.

We're an established, independent M&E contractor employing over 50 people, with an annual turnover of approximately £18–£20 million, delivering major mechanical and electrical projects across North Wales, the North West, Midlands and Yorkshire.

Since starting as a family-run electrical contractor in 2008, we've grown significantly while keeping the straightforward, hands-on approach that got us here in the first place.

We now work with some of the UK's leading main contractors and developers, delivering substantial M&E packages across residential, commercial, education and other sectors.

This isn't a role where you'll simply be turning around small electrical quotations.

You'll be involved in the full tender process on major construction projects, working alongside our commercial, design and operational teams to put together competitive, commercially sound electrical tenders.

You'll be responsible for:

• Reviewing tender drawings, specifications and employer's requirements
• Producing detailed electrical take-offs and cost plans
• Preparing electrical tenders from first review through to final submission
• Obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Identifying risks, opportunities and scope gaps
• Developing value engineering options and alternative solutions
• Working with our mechanical, design and commercial teams on combined M&E tenders
• Attending tender interviews and clarification meetings where required
• Supporting projects through pre-construction and handover into the delivery team

We're more interested in your experience and ability than a list of qualifications.

Ideally, you'll already have experience estimating electrical packages within the building services or construction sector and understand what it takes to put together a competitive tender without simply chasing the lowest number.

You'll be comfortable reading drawings and specifications, carrying out take-offs, dealing with suppliers and subcontractors and taking ownership of your tenders.

Experience with design & build projects and larger electrical packages would be particularly useful.

We'd also be interested in speaking to experienced Electrical Engineers, Electrical Quantity Surveyors or Contracts Managers who have a strong estimating background and are considering moving into a dedicated pre-construction role.

We're continuing to grow steadily, but we're still independently owned and decisions are made quickly.

You'll work directly with the senior management team and have genuine input into the projects we pursue, how we price them and ultimately how we deliver them.

You'll be joining an £18–£20m turnover M&E contractor with a strong order book, established relationships with major contractors and developers and the capability to deliver multi-million-pound M&E projects.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who wants to become an important part of the business rather than simply another estimator in a large estimating department.
