Location: Ipswich | Remote
Rate: £30 per hour Umbrella
Initial Contract Length: 4 months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Role summary

You will provide comprehensive housing options advice to customers with a range of housing needs, with a strong focus on preventing and relieving homelessness. You will assess individual circumstances, determine statutory housing duties and identify practical solutions that help customers secure or maintain suitable accommodation.

The role involves managing a varied and complex caseload while working closely with vulnerable customers, their advocates, support networks and partner agencies.

What you will do as a Housing Advice and Prevention Officer

·Assess housing and homelessness applications in accordance with relevant legislation, statutory guidance and local policies.
·Interview and investigate customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness to establish their circumstances and housing needs.
·Undertake active homelessness prevention and relief casework, identifying appropriate interventions and housing solutions.
·Manage a varied and complex caseload from initial application through to housing outcomes, ensuring decisions and actions are accurately documented.
·Provide clear housing advice covering areas such as eligibility, housing options, allocations, temporary accommodation and tenancy sustainment.
·Work with customers experiencing complex circumstances, including domestic abuse, safeguarding concerns, offending histories and other vulnerabilities.
·Work collaboratively with statutory and voluntary agencies to achieve positive outcomes for customers with acute housing needs.

What you will need as a Housing Advice and Prevention Officer

·Previous experience working within housing needs, homelessness, housing options or a closely related service.
·Experience supporting people who are homeless, threatened with homelessness or otherwise vulnerable.
·Working knowledge of homelessness and current housing legislation, with the ability to explain complex requirements clearly.
·Experience assessing customer circumstances and identifying appropriate housing solutions.
·Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to achieve positive outcomes.
·Experience of effective multi-agency working.
