How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior / Associate Building Surveyor
    Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
    Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 + Bonus (dependent on experience)

Joshua Robert is partnering with Godwin Powell to appoint a Senior Building Surveyor. This is a senior appointment for an experienced, RICS-chartered professional to take a leading technical and client-facing role within one of the UK's fastest-growing building consultancy businesses.

    About Godwin Powell
Godwin Powell is an established building consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering technically excellent, commercially focused advice to some of the world's leading brands, major institutions and private property owners.

The business has grown into one of the most exciting building surveying organisations in the UK, combining genuine technical expertise with a fresh, forward-thinking commercial approach. It operates across Professional Building Surveying, Project Management, Due Diligence and Design, giving its people the opportunity to work across a genuinely broad range of disciplines, sectors and project types.

With offices in Birmingham and London, Godwin Powell works with some of the biggest and most recognisable organisations in the world. Its project portfolio is highly diverse, spanning major commercial, retail, industrial, leisure and mixed-use assets, as well as complex development, refurbishment and investment projects.

Godwin Powell is in the midst of a period of hyper-growth, driven by an increasingly impressive client base and a growing demand from some of the world's biggest brands to work with us. You will join a business that has already achieved significant growth, but is still at an exciting stage of its journey. That combination creates an environment where talented individuals can progress rapidly, take on meaningful responsibility and play a significant role in the next phase of the business.

    The Opportunity
Godwin Powell is looking for an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join the practice. As a Senior Building Surveyor, you will take ownership of complex professional instructions across the firm's full client base, from institutional investors and private property owners to some of the world's most recognisable brands.

What sets this role apart is the breadth of the group you will be working within. Godwin Powell operates across Building Surveying, Project Management, Due Diligence and Design, delivering multidisciplinary solutions from a single, director-led team.

Working directly with the business's directors, you will take a lead role in delivering technically excellent, commercially sound advice across a wide range of asset classes, from commercial portfolios to high-value private instructions. Day-to-day, that means leading your own instructions from brief through to completion, while also helping to shape the growth of the business and mentor the wider surveying team.

    Key Responsibilities

Leading building surveys and condition reports across a wide range of asset classes, from commercial portfolios to high-value private instructions
Directing due diligence and acquisition support for institutional and private clients, covering fund monitoring, technical risk and portfolio appraisal
Diagnosing defects and specifying remediation, taking ownership of complex or high-value instructions through to completion
Administering contracts on behalf of clients, managing programmes, cost and quality on site
Advising on party wall and neighbourly matters, managing the statutory process for building and adjoining owners
Providing project management support on refurbishment, fit-out and capital works, working alongside the firm's PM capability
Collaborating with the in-house design team on lease plans, measured surveys and specification drawings
Supporting and mentoring junior surveyors, contributing to their technical development
Building and maintaining senior client relationships that generate repeat instructions and referrals The Ideal Candidate

    MRICS Qualified
A proven track record delivering building surveys, due diligence and contract administration across a range of asset classes
Comfortable operating with autonomy, taking ownership of instructions from initial brief through to completion
Strong commercial awareness, confident advising clients on fee structures, programme and risk alongside the technical detail
Experience mentoring or developing junior surveyors is advantageous
A collaborative, curious and driven approach, in keeping with Godwin Powell's ambition to do things differently Why Join Godwin Powell?
You'll be joining a director-led company at an exciting stage of its growth, with the seniority to help define what comes next. Godwin Powell has built a client roster that most established practices would spend decades assembling, without the scale or bureaucracy that usually comes with it.
The business is entering a new growth phase, with plans to expand its service lines and team, meaning real scope to grow with it as well as impacting delivery.

What makes this role stand out:

World-leading clients from day one, with access to a portfolio that most surveyors spend careers trying to reach
A multidisciplinary environment, working alongside QSs, PMs and designers on integrated instructions
Genuine career progression, in a growing firm where the route to associate and director level is real Remuneration & Benefits

Competitive base salary of £50,000 – £65,000, commensurate with experience and qualification level, plus bonus
Hybrid working arrangements, splitting time between the Birmingham office and remote working
RICS-recognised CPD and continuous professional development, fully supported by the firm
    Pension provision with employer contributions
A fun, collaborative and sociable environment INDS
