Enemy of Boredom (EOB) is a video game design training centre working with young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to build futures.

We are the academy of creative excellence for young people who think differently, delivering contemporary arts education and alternative provision through video games design, music performance and preparing-for-adulthood life skills courses.

We are seeking a passionate and creative Game Design Tutor to join our team at our Reading studio, delivering Level 1, 2 and 3 video game design courses to young people with SEND.

The Role:

As a Game Design Tutor, your task is to equip neurodivergent young people with the video game design skills needed to create a more beautiful digital world.

Working both online and in person, you will offer students opportunities to develop their skills, confidence and capabilities through learning video game design - education without boundaries.

You will plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons and workshops, adapting your teaching to meet the individual strengths and needs of your students.

You will work closely with students to support their development, monitor progress and contribute to their wider educational outcomes, including relevant EHCP targets.

Skills and Abilities That EOB Look For:

You need to be trained to degree level in video game-related courses or have relevant industry experience.
Current teaching qualification or willingness to take one on.
A keen interest in pop culture and a passion for the games industry.
The ability to understand young people and their differences when learning, helping to promote growth and confidence.
Comfortable working in the venue as well as online with students.
A genuine enjoyment of lesson and workshop planning.
The ability to report and record data and progress accurately.
Self-motivated and able to contribute ideas for continuous improvement.
Solid organisational skills and the ability to adapt and be flexible to tasks.
A passion for helping young people with SEND develop their creative and digital skills.Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching:

Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following EOB's plans, curriculum and schemes of work.
Deliver engaging Level 1, 2 and 3 video game design sessions.
Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment.
Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils.
Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils.
Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge.
Run EHCPs relevant to your students.
Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for external tests.
Plan practical workshops and activities that develop students' technical and creative skills.
Support students to develop their confidence, independence and understanding of the wider games industry.Safeguarding, Health & Safety:

Follow safeguarding policies and report any concerns immediately in line with procedure.
Support online safety practices where delivery includes digital platforms.
Adhere to health and safety guidance, including risk assessments for practical activities.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.
Contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.About You:

You will be creative, enthusiastic and passionate about video game design and education. You will understand that young people learn in different ways and will be able to adapt your approach to help individual students engage, develop and succeed.

You will also be organised and reliable, with the ability to plan effectively, maintain accurate records and work collaboratively with colleagues.

Experience working with young people with SEND would be advantageous, as would knowledge of relevant creative software and game development platforms.
