How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: Hybrid working for up to two days per week at home
    Salary: £28,178 per annum
    Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week

    The Role
    We're looking for an Editorial Assistant to join our Publications team and work on our internationally renowned veterinary publications. You'll support publications through different stages of the editorial and production process, including project administration, checking manuscripts and proofs, managing permissions and project information, and liaising with authors, editors, colleagues and freelance suppliers.

    This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take their first step into a publishing career.

    This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week within the Publications team, reporting to the Headof Publishing.

    Skills and Experience
    You don't need previous publishing experience to apply. We're looking for someone with excellent attention to detail, strong communication and organisational skills, and the ability to manage their own workload effectively.

    Experience of publishing, copy-editing or proofreading would be an advantage, as would a degree in life or health sciences. Good Microsoft Office skills and confidence working with a range of colleagues, authors and editors would also be beneficial.
