We are recruiting for an ACA or ACCA qualified Finance Professional for a broad and influential Assistant Financial Controller / Financial Controller opportunity within an established professional services business in Canterbury.
This is a hands-on role combining financial control, management accounting and treasury with a higher level of management reporting and commercial insight. You will work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders, supporting both the day-to-day financial control of the business and the production of information used at senior and Board level.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
* Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting
* Production and development of monthly Management Information (MI)
* Analysis of financial performance, including trends, variances, risks and opportunities
* Preparation of clear financial commentary for senior stakeholders
* Assisting with monthly Board papers and financial reporting packs
* Supporting the presentation and explanation of financial information at Partner and Board level
* Month-end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
* Cashflow forecasting, banking and treasury activity
* Payment runs, BACS and wider transactional finance oversight
* Budgeting, forecasting and cost control
* Maintaining and improving financial controls and processes
* Supporting year-end accounts and external audit
* Providing guidance and oversight to members of the finance team
* Ad hoc analysis to support commercial and strategic decision-making
About You
* Fully ACA or ACCA qualified
* Experienced in management accounting and financial control
* Confident producing monthly MI and senior management reporting packs
* Able to analyse financial performance and turn the numbers into meaningful commercial insight
* Experienced in contributing to Board, Executive or senior management reporting
* Comfortable preparing Board-level financial commentary and supporting papers
* Confident discussing financial performance with Partners, Directors and senior stakeholders
* Strong across month-end, management accounts, cashflow, banking and financial controls
* Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
* Highly proficient in Excel, with Xero and/or QuickBooks advantageous
Previous experience within accountancy practice, legal, professional services or another partnership environment would be particularly attractive.
This could suit an experienced Assistant Financial Controller ready for greater ownership and Board exposure, or an established Financial Controller looking for a broad, visible role working closely with senior decision-makers.
