Design Engineer

Randstad is recruiting a Civil Design Engineer on behalf of an in-house engineering consultancy for a leading tier-one contractor in Bridgend. Supporting a growing portfolio across water, power, heavy industrial, and design-and-build infrastructure, this role offers a flexible environment where you can deliver complex technical designs while benefiting from a strong work-life balance.

The Role

Reporting to a Senior Engineer, you will support the technical delivery of design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction support. Your day-to-day will involve:

Detailed Design & Calculations: Preparing clear design calculations, technical reports, drawings, and deliverables in full accordance with Eurocodes and UK standards.

BIM & Software Integration: Utilizing modern design software (such as STAAD Pro, FEM Analysis, or Autodesk Robot) within a BIM-led design framework.

Project Delivery: Managing your own work packages to meet time, cost, and HSEQ compliance targets.

Site Support & Stakeholders: Attending site visits to resolve design queries and agree buildable solutions during construction phases.

Team Supervision: Guiding technicians and junior staff to ensure accurate and timely project scope delivery.

Essential Requirements

Design Experience: Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with 3 to 4 years of hands-on civil design experience.

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Eurocodes, UK Industry Codes of Practice, and structural/civil design software packages.

Sector Background: Experience working on infrastructure projects (water, utilities, power, or heavy civils background is ideal, though water sector experience is non-essential).

Professional Goals: Working towards chartership or professional membership with a recognised institution (e.g., ICE or IStructE).

Workplace Flexibility: Able to work from the Bridgend office 2 days per week, with a valid UK driving licence for site visits.
