Highway Inspector

Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Pay: £26.62 per hour PAYE
Contract: ASAP – 31 March 2027

Lynx Employment Services is recruiting an experienced Highway Inspector for a contract within a busy Highways & Maintenance service.

The role will involve undertaking planned, cyclical and reactive highway safety inspections, identifying and risk-assessing defects and ensuring the highway network remains safe and serviceable.

### Key Responsibilities

Carry out highway safety inspections of carriageways, footways and associated assets

Identify, assess and categorise highway defects

Raise works orders and monitor defects through to completion

Maintain accurate inspection records to support Section 58 defence and liability claims

Undertake follow-up inspections and quality checks

Monitor highway works for compliance with required standards

Respond to highway enquiries, complaints and reported defects

Liaise with contractors, stakeholders and members of the public

Maintain inspection records using Symology, Insight or similar systems

Provide evidence and reports for claims, audits and legal proceedings when required
### Essential Experience

Previous highway safety inspection experience or closely related highways experience
Knowledge of the Highways Act 1980, including Section 58
Understanding of the Well-managed Highway Infrastructure Code of Practice
Experience identifying, assessing and prioritising highway defects
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to maintain accurate inspection and defect records

This position would suit a Highway Inspector, Highway Safety Inspector, Highways Officer or Highway Maintenance Inspector.
