How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Sophia at Avocet Legal Careers is pleased to present an excellent opportunity for a full-time Private Client Legal Secretary to join a leading regional law firm in Exeter.

    This is a great chance to become an integral part of a large, well-established Private Client department, working within a professional and genuinely friendly team.

    About the Client

    Our client is a respected regional firm providing a full range of legal services to families and businesses across the South West. They are known for delivering high-quality advice in a personal and approachable way, and place real value on long-term client relationships and strong links with the local community.

    Private Client is a key area of practice for the firm and one of its largest departments, acting for a broad client base that includes landowners, rural clients and high net worth individuals.

    About the Role

    You will provide full secretarial support to three fee earners within the Private Client department. The role requires excellent audio typing skills and the confidence to manage a busy and varied workload using your own initiative.

    You will also support colleagues elsewhere in the department on a remote basis via digital dictation, and assist with reception cover at lunchtimes and during periods of absence.

    Private Client Legal Secretary Responsibilities

    * Providing comprehensive secretarial support to three Private Client fee earners

    * Producing accurate documentation and correspondence via digital dictation

    * Supporting wider department members remotely using SpeechMike digital dictation

    * Managing fee earners' electronic diaries

    * Assisting with reception cover at lunchtimes and during absences

    * Anticipating and meeting the needs of the department proactively

    Private Client Legal Secretary Requirements

    * Previous legal secretarial experience is essential

    * Previous Private Client experience is preferable

    * Excellent secretarial and audio typing skills with strong attention to detail

    * Experience using digital dictation and case management software

    * Good organisational skills and effective written and verbal communication

    * Competent in Word, Outlook and other Microsoft products

    * Able to work flexibly, cope well under pressure and manage changing priorities

    * Positive, proactive approach with the ability to use your own initiative
