How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced Payroll Officer who is comfortable managing a large monthly and enjoys working in a busy operational environment?

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join a well established business in Wrexham. This is an important role within the HR team, responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for around 500 employees across hourly paid and salaried positions.

This is not a small payroll. You will need to have previous experience managing a significant employee population and be confident dealing with a payroll that includes overtime, time and attendance, shift payments, sickness, maternity, statutory payments and other variable pay elements.

You will also need to be highly competent with Excel and have strong experience using payroll systems, ideally including Sage.

    What you will be doing

    • Managing the end to end monthly payroll process for approximately 500 employees

    • Processing payroll accurately and within strict deadlines

    • Managing payroll for both hourly paid and salaried employees

    • Processing new starters, leavers, salary changes, promotions, transfers and contractual amendments

    • Processing variable payroll information including overtime, shift payments, allowances, bonuses, attendance, absence and other payments

    • Working closely with operational and production teams to validate timesheets, attendance records, overtime and working hours

    • Using time and attendance information to ensure payroll is processed accurately

    • Processing statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and other applicable payments

    • Managing PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, student loans and other statutory deductions

    • Administering workplace pension processes including enrolments, opt outs and contribution changes

    • Completing payroll checks, reconciliations and validation before payroll is finalised

    • Investigating and resolving payroll discrepancies

    • Producing payroll reports and providing accurate information to HR, Finance and management

    • Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and payroll system providers where required

    • Maintaining accurate payroll records and ensuring all employee information is handled confidentially

    • Supporting month end and year end payroll activities

    What we are looking for

This role requires someone who is already experienced in managing a sizeable payroll and can hit the ground running.

You will ideally have experience of processing payroll for around 500 employees or more and be comfortable working with both hourly paid and salaried employees.

Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, production or other operational environment would be particularly beneficial, especially where payroll includes overtime, shifts and time and attendance.

    You will also need:

    • Strong experience of monthly payroll processing

    • Good working knowledge of UK PAYE, National Insurance and statutory payroll requirements

    • Experience processing overtime, shift payments, allowances, absence and other variable pay

    • Strong experience using payroll and HR systems, ideally Sage

    • Excellent Excel skills, including formulas, sorting, filtering and analysing data

    • Experience working with time and attendance systems

    • Strong payroll reconciliation and data validation skills

    • Strong numerical and analytical skills

    • The ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies

    • Experience administering workplace pensions and auto enrolment

    • A good understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory payments

    • The ability to work to strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy

    • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with employees, managers, HR and Finance

    Salary and benefits

    Salary: Depending on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with an early finish on a Friday

    Working arrangement: Fully site based

    Benefits include:

    • 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, pro rata

    • Company Bonus

    • Life insurance of 2 times annual salary

    • Opportunity to develop your skills and career within a growing business

If you are an experienced Payroll Specialist who has managed a sizeable payroll and is confident with Excel, Sage, time and attendance and complex variable pay, we would be interested in hearing from you.
