The Role
* Manage business rates for multiple commercial properties and companies.
* Deal directly with the VOA and Local Authorities.
* Review rateable values and challenge incorrect assessments.
* Manage VOA appeals, challenges and rating reviews.
* Investigate incorrect or disputed business rates bills.
* Deal with empty properties, reliefs, exemptions and liability changes.
* Monitor business rates accounts, credits, refunds and adjustments.
* Review property alterations, splits, mergers and changes to hereditaments.
* Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary business rates costs.
* Maintain accurate records of all cases, appeals and correspondence.
* Provide advice to the property and accounts teams.
* Monitor deadlines and ensure matters are progressed promptly.
About You
* Previous hands-on business rates experience is essential.
* Strong knowledge of commercial property business rates.
* Experience dealing with the VOA and Local Authorities.
* Experience handling challenges, appeals and complex rating issues.
* Excellent attention to detail and numerical skills.
* Able to manage multiple properties and cases independently.
* Organised, proactive and confident dealing with external organisations.
* Good Excel and general IT skills.
Experience
Experience within a commercial property company, property management company, rating consultancy or Local Authority would be advantageous.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands business rates and can take ownership of issues from investigation through to resolution.
