Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Oxford Station, Oxford
Working arrangements: Hybrid working, typically 2-3 days per week on site
Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible start times available
Salary: £65,000 to £75,000 per annum DOE + £5,900 car allowance

Role Overview:
A leading UK infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team delivering the next phase of works at Oxford Station.
 
The project has recently secured its next phase and has at least another two years of work ahead. The team is currently mobilising for the new phase, making this an excellent time to join as commercial and procurement activity begins to increase.
 
The upcoming works will predominantly consist of civil engineering and infrastructure packages around the station, including structures, station platforms, canopies, cladding and associated buildings.
 
Although this is a rail environment, previous rail experience is not essential. Candidates from wider civil engineering sectors including highways, water and major infrastructure will be considered, provided they have a strong civils background.
 
Initially, a significant part of the position will focus on procurement and supply chain management as the new phase gets underway. The role will then cover the wider commercial management of allocated packages, including subcontractor management, forecasting, valuations, cost control, variations and profitability.
 
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable operating independently and taking ownership of their workload. The business is looking for someone who can integrate into a busy site environment, work closely with the delivery team and get involved from the outset.
 
There may also be opportunities to support and develop junior Quantity Surveyors within the team, although previous management experience is not essential.
 
Key Responsibilities:
·Manage the procurement of subcontractors and supply chain packages for the next phase of the project.
·Manage subcontractor accounts from procurement and appointment through to final account.
·Undertake forecasting and provide accurate commercial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
·Prepare interim valuations, monthly applications for payment and final accounts.
·Lead cost control activities and work closely with the project team to protect and maximise project profitability.
·Manage variations and commercial change throughout the project.
·Maintain and contribute to project risk and opportunity registers.
·Monitor commercial performance using appropriate performance indicators and identify areas of risk or opportunity.
·Work closely with the supply chain to secure sustainable commercial value.
·Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
·Work collaboratively with site and operational teams to ensure commercial considerations are incorporated into project delivery.
·Support junior Quantity Surveyors and other members of the commercial team where required.
·Ensure commercial and contractual processes are followed throughout project delivery.
 
Essential Requirements:
·Strong Quantity Surveying experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or a similar contracting environment, ideally within a rail environment, and 10+ years overall industry experience.
·1-2 years at Senior Quantity Surveyor level
·Experience managing subcontractor accounts with the ability to operate with limited supervision.
·Strong experience of procurement and supply chain management.
·Experience working within a civil engineering environment, for a Tier 1/Main Contractor.
·HND, HNC, Degree or equivalent relevant construction or commercial qualification.
·Experience working with NEC contracts.
 
Desired Requirements:
·Experience working on major infrastructure projects.
·Experience delivering structures, bridges, station platforms or similar heavy civil engineering packages.
·Previous rail infrastructure experience.
·Experience supporting or mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors.
