Southend Swimming Club in Essex is seeking an ambitious, athlete-centred Head Coach to lead the newly formed Southend Swimming Club. The recent merging of the two Southend clubs has created an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced coach to develop and implement a programme for the newly formed Club.
Southend Swimming Club train at the excellent 8 lane 25m Southend Leisure Centre at Garon Park and Belfairs 4 lane 25m pool in Leigh. There is a large amount of pool time available over morning and evening sessions for the approximate 275 members with capacity to support the growth of the new club. An experienced coaching team will support the programme. We want to provide a complete swimmer journey from Learn to swim pathways through development and performance squads and Masters swimming.
The merging of the two Southend clubs has been a very positive process and we are ambitious to develop a programme that supports swimming across participation, swimmer progression, coaching quality and long-term sustainability for the City. We are looking for an experienced coach who can help shape a positive, inclusive environment where swimmers, coaches and volunteers can thrive.
Working closely with the Club Committee and coaching team, the Head Coach will provide leadership across the Club’s developing swimming programme, supporting swimmer progress, coach development, competition planning and long-term development opportunities.
This is a hands-on coaching and leadership role with scope to shape the programme delivery, contribute to the Club’s future direction and support the Club’s ambitious growth plans over the coming years.
The role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive club environment with strong links to the local community.
Key Areas of Focus:
· Deliver a high-quality, swimmer-centred coaching programme across the Club pathway
· Support long-term athlete development and progression
· Promote a positive and motivating training culture
· Mentor and support the wider coaching team
· Support continued improvement in swimmer progression and performance trends, including progression opportunities at County, Regional and National level.
· Build strong relationships with swimmers, parents, coaches, volunteers and stakeholders
· Contribute to the ongoing sustainability and growth of the club
· To develop a land training programme

· Experienced in competitive swimming coaching across age-group and development pathways to National level
· Committed to creating a positive, inclusive and enjoyable environment
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
· Senior Swim England/Level 3 Coach or equivalent
· Experience of mentoring and supporting a team of coaches and poolside helpers
· Experience coaching competitive swimmers across development and performance pathways
· Strong understanding of athlete development and competition planning
· Current safeguarding qualification
Location and Commitment:
Training is based at Southend Leisure Centre Garon Park, Southend and Belfairs Pool, Leigh on Sea. The coaching commitment includes a mixture of evening and morning sessions, alongside weekend competition attendance, planning and programme coordination responsibilities. Flexibility is expected on both sides to meet the needs of the programme throughout the season.
Salary £30 per hour - depending on experience
Estimated hours per week 20+
