Role Overview:
We are seeking to appoint a Specialist Occupational Therapist (Band 6 equivalent) on a temporary fixed‑term basis to provide a high‑quality service within a hospice inpatient unit. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering specialist occupational therapy to patients with complex palliative care needs, including malignant and non‑malignant conditions such as MND and COPD. The role involves assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation, symptom management (fatigue, anxiety, dyspnoea), equipment provision, environmental assessments, and discharge facilitation. You will contribute to clinical governance, service development, and training, while maintaining professional registration and continuous professional development.
Key Requirements:
The successful candidate will:
- Hold a Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy (WFOT recognised) and be HCPC registered.
- Be a member of RCOT (or hold equivalent liability insurance).
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ post‑graduate experience, including palliative care.
- Demonstrate experience in postural management and adaptive equipment assessment.
- Possess excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills.
- Show knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and RQIA standards.
- Be able to teach, support, and liaise effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Criteria
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy (WFOT recognised).
- HCPC registration.
- RCOT membership (or liability insurance).
- Minimum 3 years’ post‑graduate experience.
- Experience in palliative care settings.
- Skills in postural management and adaptive equipment assessment.
- Excellent communication and IT skills.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and RQIA standards.
Desirable Criteria
- Membership of special interest groups.
- Post‑graduate development in palliative care (to master’s level).
- Experience in fatigue, anxiety, and dyspnoea management.
- Group facilitation and audit/research experience.
- Knowledge of oncology/palliative care guidelines.
- Experience with cognitive screening tools.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
