How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Description

    Location: Burnley

    Salary: £35,000 per annum

    Contract: 9–12 Month FTC

ALF Recruit is supporting a well-established, values-led organisation with the appointment of an experienced HR Advisor on a 9–12 month fixed-term contract.

This is a busy, hands-on HR role within a complex and regulated environment, supporting multiple services and managers across the organisation. You’ll be dealing with a varied and sometimes challenging Employee Relations caseload, so we’re looking for someone who is confident, resilient and comfortable making sound HR decisions in complex situations.

As this is a fixed-term appointment, you’ll need to be able to hit the ground running, quickly build credibility with managers and take ownership of cases with minimal hand-holding.

    Benefits:

    • £35,000 salary
    • Enhanced holiday, sickness, maternity and paternity provisions
    • Employer pension contributions
    • Private healthcare, health cash plan and 24/7 GP access
    • Life assurance
    • Cycle to Work scheme
    • Gym membership discounts
    • Employee discounts and rewards
    • Plus additional benefits

    The role

Working alongside HR Business Partners and the wider People team, you’ll provide practical, commercially focused and legally compliant HR advice across a diverse group of services.

You’ll manage your own busy and complex ER caseload, supporting managers through situations that require confidence, resilience and sound judgement. Priorities can change quickly, so being able to remain calm, organised and credible under pressure is essential.

    You’ll be responsible for:

    • Managing complex Employee Relations cases including disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance and organisational change
    • Coaching and supporting managers through challenging and sensitive employee situations
    • Building strong relationships and credibility with managers across multiple services
    • Supporting HR Business Partners with wider organisational priorities and People projects
    • Advising on organisational change and the associated people implications
    • Identifying ER trends, risks and opportunities to improve HR practices
    • Managing competing priorities and a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
    • Contributing to wider change programmes and People initiatives

    What we are looking for

This role will suit an HR professional who has already operated in a fast-paced, complex and ideally regulated organisation and is comfortable taking ownership from day one.

    You’ll ideally have:

    • Strong Employee Relations experience, including exposure to complex disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance and change cases
    • Experience working within a regulated, compliance-led or similarly complex environment
    • A proven ability to manage a high-volume and complex ER caseload independently
    • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent practical HR experience
    • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
    • Confidence advising and challenging managers at different levels
    • The ability to assess risk and apply sound judgement rather than simply following process
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
    • Strong organisation and the ability to adapt when priorities change
    • Resilience and professional credibility, particularly when dealing with difficult or sensitive situations
    • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential, as the role involves regular travel across services in Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

This is a great opportunity to join a diverse, community-focused organisation where HR plays an important role in supporting services that make a genuine difference to people’s lives.

If you’re available immediately or at short notice, are within commutable distance of Burnley and have a strong track record across Employee Relations and wider HR Advisory work, we’d love to hear from you.
