About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and experienced PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Kingston. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex additional needs.
You will provide personalised support to pupils both within the classroom and across the wider school environment. The role involves supporting learning, communication, sensory development, mobility and personal care, while helping pupils to build confidence, independence and positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with PMLD and complex needs
* Support pupils to access personalised learning and sensory activities
* Assist with communication using appropriate strategies and resources
* Support pupils with personal care where required
* Assist with mobility, positioning and physical needs
* Implement individual education and support plans
* Promote pupils' independence, wellbeing and engagement
* Use sensory and communication strategies to support individual needs
* Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team
* Monitor and communicate pupil progress and wellbeing
* Follow safeguarding, health and safety and care procedures
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Previous experience supporting children or young people with PMLD or complex SEN
* Experience providing personal care
* Patient, compassionate and resilient approach
* Confident supporting pupils with complex physical, medical and communication needs
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service
* Right to Work in the UK
Desirable:
* Previous experience working within a specialist SEN school
* Experience supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, physical disabilities or medical needs
* Manual handling / moving and handling training
* Experience with PECS, Makaton, AAC or other communication systems
* Understanding of sensory processing and sensory-based learning
* Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
