How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About Us:

The Harington Scheme is an Ofsted regulated training provider based in North London, working with around 50 young people aged 16-25 with learning differences. We have recently been inspected by Ofsted and retained our grade of Good. We specialise in horticulture, retail and employability skills, operating two learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey, a gardening business and two charity shops. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment delivering outstanding, personalised education and support that leads to further education, employment opportunities and a fulfilling life for each student.

Learning Support Assistant - The Role:

You will work in a strengths-based way to support the independence, autonomy and aspirations of students with learning difficulties and disabilities. You will provide support within learning programmes, group settings and individually at our training centres or on work experience placements including the Harington Charity Shop and Harington Gardeners. You will also have opportunities to support with enrichment, mentoring and group activities, ensuring students receive the help they need to progress with their learning.

Learning Support Assistant - Key Responsibilities:

    - Provide support in sessions for small groups and individual students, or support outside teaching sessions and on work experience as directed

    - Assist teaching staff with preparation of materials and activities, liaising with teachers to ensure effective support

    - Attend to specific needs of named students throughout the day, including personal care support, meal preparation and medication management in line with guidelines

    - Work closely with students' keyworkers to monitor and review individual student targets

    - Accompany and support students during external work experience placements and trips

    - Maintain records of student progress and contribute to Individual Learning Plans, risk assessments and personal emergency evacuation plans

    Learning Support Assistant - You:

    - Experience of working with people with learning disabilities, ideally in a classroom setting

    - GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics with excellent verbal and written communication skills

    - Competent in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook Express

    - Reliable, flexible and trustworthy with general awareness of health and safety

    - Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults

    - Enhanced DBS Disclosure required

    Benefits:

    - Confidential employee assistance programme

    - Cycle to Work Scheme

    - Fully paid DBS

    - Contributory pension scheme

    - Excellent staff training and development opportunities

    Equality, Diversity & Inclusion:

We value diversity and positively welcome applications from all backgrounds. This will help ensure our workforce better reflects the diverse wider community we support. Applicants who declare a disability and meet the minimum criteria for the role will be guaranteed an interview.

    Application Process:

To apply, please submit your CV and a covering letter (up to 1,000 words) detailing how you meet all the essential criteria. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to complete a Harington application form.

We will not be considering any applications without a personal statement.

As this role involves working closely with young people and vulnerable adults, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Disclosure with Barred List checks.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory six-month probation period.
