How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Opportunity

Are you a compassionate, organized support professional looking for a deeply rewarding role where your daily work helps individuals overcome barriers to learning? Do you want to play a crucial role in prison rehabilitation by supporting adult learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and additional learning needs (ALN)?

We are recruiting for a dedicated Learning Support Practitioner to join the prison education team on-site at HMP Littlehey. Working directly alongside tutors, healthcare teams, and neurodiversity specialists, you will provide essential one-to-one and small group support-empowering learners to build confidence, access the curriculum, and achieve qualifications that support their long-term rehabilitation.

    What You Will Be Doing

Tailored Learner Support: Deliver dedicated in-class and one-to-one assistance for learners with SEND or additional learning needs, building positive relationships that boost self-esteem, independence, and self-advocacy.

Support Planning & Profiling: Utilize assessment tools (such as the Do IT Profiler) to construct, maintain, and regularly review course-specific support plans aligned with the SEND graduated approach.

Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with tutors, prison staff, healthcare practitioners, and neurodiversity specialists to ensure reasonable adjustments are made for classroom tasks and formal assessments.

Documentation & Compliance: Accurately record, track, and manage all support documentation within Ministry of Justice (MoJ) systems, ensuring full compliance with prison security, safeguarding, and quality standards.

Inclusive Environment: Foster a safe, inclusive learning space, assisting with student support cover and contributing to a whole-prison approach to additional learning needs.

    What We Are Looking For

Core Qualifications: GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade C / Grade 4 or above.

Specialist Experience: Proven experience supporting individuals with SEND or additional learning needs, along with a solid understanding of effective support strategies and the SEND Code of Practice.

Administrative & IT Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage a diverse caseload, maintain accurate MoJ records, and use educational IT software effectively.

Key Attributes: Excellent communication, a proactive and empathetic approach, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping adult learners overcome educational barriers.

Desirable Criteria: Level 3 qualification in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities (or willingness to obtain one), prior experience within prison or secure environments, and familiarity with Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
