An established and growing façade specialist is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join its team, working across a varied portfolio of technically challenging façade projects.
The business operates across two key areas: delivering new-build façade packages for Tier 1 Main Contractors, alongside recladding and façade remediation projects as Principal Contractor.
This is a key appointment within the business and offers genuine scope for the successful individual to develop into a more senior management position as the company continues to grow.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will take responsibility for managing the design process across projects from pre-construction through to delivery and completion.
Rather than producing design directly, you will manage and oversee external design teams, ensuring information is coordinated, technically compliant and delivered in line with programme requirements.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Managing façade design across projects through all stages of pre-construction and delivery
* Overseeing and coordinating external façade designers and design consultants
* Working closely with architects, structural engineers, fire consultants and other specialist consultants
* Reviewing drawings, specifications, technical submissions and design information
* Managing design programmes, deliverables, RFIs and technical approvals
* Identifying and resolving design risks and coordination issues
* Working closely with estimating, pre-construction, commercial and operational teams
* Supporting projects through the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) Gateway process
* Ensuring designs meet relevant Building Regulations, specifications and façade performance requirements
* Providing technical and design support throughout the construction phase
* Reporting directly to the Director and wider senior management team
Experience Required
This position requires someone with a strong technical background specifically within the façade and cladding sector.
You will ideally have experience across curtain walling, rainscreen cladding and associated external envelope systems, with a background working for a façade specialist, subcontractor or contractor.
BSR experience is essential, including practical experience of working on projects subject to the Building Safety Act and successfully progressing projects through the relevant Gateway process.
Experience of both new-build façade projects and recladding/façade remediation schemes would be particularly advantageous.
