How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Commercial Manager – Highways & Bridges

    Location: Bristol
    Contract: Permanent | Site-based
Package: Competitive salary + company car + benefits

    The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join its Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance (SBIM) contract, supporting the maintenance of some of the UK’s most significant bridge structures.

Working in partnership with National Highways, our client delivers inspection and maintenance services across the Avonmouth Bridge, Prince of Wales Bridge and Severn Bridge. The contract includes planned maintenance, daily inspections, safety patrols and incident response to protect the structural integrity of these essential transport links.

This is an opportunity to take a key commercial role on a technically complex highways contract, combining financial oversight, client relationship management and team development.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Commercial and financial management: Work closely with Finance to manage project costs, budgets and forecasts, including Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reporting and work in progress (WIP).

    * Change management: Assess proposed changes to works and ensure contractual notices and early warnings are submitted accurately and on time.

    * Client relationships: Build and maintain strong working relationships, supporting the resolution of commercial issues and identifying opportunities for future work.

    * Bids and estimating: Support Bid and Estimating teams by developing robust commercial solutions for strategic opportunities.

    * Team leadership: Manage and develop team members through regular performance reviews, clear objectives and ongoing support.

    * Safety and inclusion: Champion our client’s safety standards and contribute to an open, inclusive and collaborative working environment.

    About You

You will bring strong commercial judgement, sound financial knowledge and the ability to manage competing priorities within a demanding project environment.

    You will have:

    * A degree qualification accredited by RICS, or equivalent.

    * Experience within civil engineering, ideally on highways or bridge projects.

    * Strong commercial and financial acumen.

    * The ability to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and project teams.

    * Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.

    * Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.

    What’s on Offer

    * Competitive annual salary with the potential for annual reviews.

    * Company car.

    * Career progression opportunities, supported by training and professional development.

    * Access to mentoring and leadership development programmes.

    * Company pension scheme.

    * At least 24 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase up to five additional days.

    * Flexible benefits, including cycle-to-work schemes, charitable giving and gym membership options.

    * Access to discounts from leading retailers and healthcare providers.

    * Two paid volunteering days per year, alongside opportunities to support community projects.
