How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Functional Fitness Coach / Personal Trainer

📍 Newcastle Fitness Club – Newcastle City Centre

    About Newcastle Fitness Club

Newcastle Fitness Club is a community-focused, independent functional fitness gym located in the heart of Newcastle. Built completely from the ground up, we've grown from zero members to a thriving community of over 120 members by delivering exceptional coaching, genuine support, and an environment where people of all ages and abilities can thrive.

We believe fitness should be accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable. Our mission is to help people become stronger, fitter, healthier, and more confident through professional coaching, safe training practices, and a welcoming community atmosphere.

We're now looking for an enthusiastic and motivated coach to join our growing team.

    The Role

As a Functional Fitness Coach, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality group training sessions, supporting members throughout their fitness journey, and helping create the positive, energetic atmosphere that Newcastle Fitness Club is known for.

You'll coach functional fitness classes, teach movement standards and exercise technique, provide adaptations where needed, and ensure every member receives a safe, effective, and enjoyable training experience.

While previous coaching experience is beneficial, we're equally interested in finding the right person with the right attitude. We will provide mentoring and support to help you become a more confident and effective coach.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Lead and coach functional fitness group classes.
    • Deliver engaging, safe, and effective workouts for members of all fitness levels.
    • Teach and demonstrate correct movement patterns and exercise techniques.
    • Adapt and scale workouts to accommodate injuries, mobility restrictions, fitness levels, and individual goals.
    • Provide encouragement, accountability, and ongoing support to members.
    • Create an inclusive environment where all members feel welcomed and valued.
    • Monitor member progress and celebrate achievements.
    • Maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service.
    • Assist in building a positive community culture within the gym.
    • Support club events, challenges, and member engagement initiatives.
    • Represent Newcastle Fitness Club professionally both inside and outside the gym.

    Essential Requirements
    • Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification OR CrossFit Level 1 certification.
    • Strong understanding of functional fitness training and movement mechanics.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Passion for health, fitness, and helping others succeed.
    • Ability to connect with and motivate people from all backgrounds and fitness levels.
    • Positive, energetic, and professional attitude.
    • Reliable, punctual, and organised.
    • Confidence to lead a class independently, or willingness to learn and develop into the role.
    • Current First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain one).

    Desirable Skills & Experience
    • Previous experience coaching group fitness classes.
    • Experience within a gym, health club, CrossFit, or sports performance environment.
    • Knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits.
    • Experience with circuit training, strength and conditioning, or sports coaching.
    • Social media and community engagement experience.

    Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:

    • Loves fitness and lives an active lifestyle.
    • Has an outgoing and approachable personality.
    • Can confidently communicate with groups and individuals.
    • Enjoys helping people build confidence and achieve things they didn't think were possible.
    • Is committed to continual learning and personal development.
    • Brings positive energy to every session.
    • Understands that coaching is about people first and fitness second.

    Hours & Benefits
    • Flexible working schedule.
    • 10–15 hours per week initially.
    • Early morning, evening, and occasional weekend availability may be required.
    • Ongoing mentoring and coaching development.
    • Free gym membership.
    • Opportunity to grow within a rapidly expanding business.
    • Potential for a full-time position in the future for the right candidate.
