How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Filmmaking Lecturer

    Raindance Film School, London

    Full Time

    About the Role

Raindance Film School is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Filmmaking Lecturer to join our academic team in London.

The successful candidate will primarily teach across our HND Filmmaking and HND Directing programmes, supporting students to develop the creative, technical and professional skills required to progress within the film and screen industries. Experience or knowledge of screenwriting would be an additional advantage.

This is a practical, vocational teaching role and we are particularly interested in candidates who understand project based creative education and can combine academic delivery with current or previous industry experience.

The ideal candidate will be confident taking ownership of their teaching responsibilities, including planning, preparation, delivery, assessment and student support, while working collaboratively with the wider academic team.

Success in this role will mean delivering engaging and industry relevant teaching, maintaining high academic standards, supporting students to complete ambitious creative work and contributing positively to the continued development of Raindance's HND provision.

    Responsibilities

    • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging teaching across HND Filmmaking and HND Directing programmes at Levels 4 and 5.

    • Deliver practical and theoretical teaching across relevant areas of filmmaking and directing.

    • Develop lesson plans, teaching materials and learning activities aligned with programme and awarding body requirements.

    • Set, supervise and assess practical film projects and written assignments.

    • Provide constructive and timely feedback that supports students' academic, creative and professional development.

    • Support students through the development, production and completion of their film projects.

    • Maintain accurate academic records and contribute to internal quality assurance and assessment processes.

    • Monitor student engagement, attendance and progress, identifying students who may require additional support.

    • Ensure teaching reflects current professional practices and developments within the film and screen industries.

    • Work collaboratively with other lecturers and the academic leadership team to maintain consistency and quality across the programmes.

    • Contribute to curriculum development and the ongoing enhancement of Raindance's filmmaking provision.

    • Participate in relevant academic meetings, moderation, standardisation and quality assurance activities.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Essential

    • A degree or above in Filmmaking, Film Production, Directing, Screenwriting or a closely related discipline.

    • Experience teaching filmmaking, media, creative media production or a related subject.

    • Experience of teaching vocational qualifications, ideally BTEC, Higher National or similar programmes at Level 4 or above.

    • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of filmmaking and film production.

    • Good understanding of directing and the creative and technical processes involved in producing film.

    • Ability to independently plan, prepare and deliver high quality teaching.

    • Strong organisational and time management skills.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Ability to provide clear, constructive and developmental feedback to students.

    • A student focused approach and commitment to maintaining high academic and professional standards.

    Desirable

    • Professional film, television or screen industry experience.

    • Experience teaching Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals or comparable vocational higher education qualifications.

    • Practical directing experience.

    • Screenwriting experience or the ability to teach aspects of screenwriting and script development.

    • Experience supervising student productions and practical filmmaking projects.
