How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Setting Out Engineer 

    Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire

    Rate: £375 per day

    Contract: Outside IR35

    Immediate Start

    We are currently seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major civil engineering project in the Didcot area.

    This opportunity is ideally suited to an engineer with strong drainage, utilities and quality assurance experience who is looking for a long-term contract role with a leading civil engineering contractor.

    Responsibilities

    Setting out and surveying for drainage and associated civil engineering works

    Providing accurate line and level control across the project

    Producing and maintaining as-built records

    Interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications

    Carrying out quality inspections and assurance checks

    Managing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and associated documentation

    Identifying and resolving technical and construction-related issues

    Supporting site management teams with engineering expertise

    Coordinating with subcontractors, designers and client representatives

    Ensuring works are delivered in line with project specifications and programme requirements

    Requirements

    Essential

    Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer, Site Engineer or Senior Engineer within civil engineering

    Strong background in drainage, including deep drainage, pipelines, manholes and associated infrastructure

    Proven quality assurance and quality control experience

    Experience completing ITPs and maintaining quality records

    Proficiency with Leica, Trimble or equivalent surveying equipment

    Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

    Valid CSCS Card

    Desirable

    Experience on highways, rail, utilities, water or major infrastructure projects

    Earthworks or utility diversion experience

    HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering
